Chance me for Claremont Mckenna ED2: Not Great GPA, Good SAT

I go to a pretty good public school, but it's on the east coast, so no one really has applied to CMC because of the variety of LACs and top tier universities here. These are my stats, and thanks for the help :) :

GPA: 3.54 UW
8 AP courses by end of senior year, and 10 AP tests taken, AP Scholar w/ Distinction
Honor Roll all 4 years
Trend is: Freshman year: 3.8, Sophomore 3.39, Junior: 3.45, Senior (ongoing): so far, 3.8 first quarter

SAT: 800 CR, 780 M, 750 W Superscored, 2330 total
Subject Tests: 800 M, 750 World History, 750 U.S History
Leadership Roles:
Econ Club President, Chess Club Captain, History Club Founder/Captain, created my own chess stand for a charity in which I play for money, teach chess and economics, taught English in a foreign country

Race: Asian
Extracurriculars: Winnings in chess (4th in state for highschool), economics, and history competitions, Expert Chess rating, chorus, black belt in karate

It is a reach, you are an ORM with a downward trend in your GPA. Congrats on the SAT scores though, they are great.

Thanks! Is CMC a lot more competitive than emory? Because every 3.5 from our school who ed’d got into emory in the last 4 years.

I don’t know too much about Emory, sorry (in terms of chancing my knowledge is focussed around top LACs and schools in Pennsylvania). That being said it is a top LAC, if you school is sending people to schools like Amherst or Wesleyan (East Coast schools with similar stats) then you should be okay.

We had one 3.5 2360 get into Amherst last year (no sports), and 2 3.5s get in w/ lower SATs into Williams, though I am unsure of whether they had sports. The Amherst kid got over a 4.0 senior year though and they took him off the waitlist. I was kind of hoping CMC was easier than amherst haha. Also, i noticed that it’s ranked lower than carleton but has a lower acceptance rate. Is it as competitive as carleton (because getting into Carleton w/ a 3.5 isn’t THAT difficult)

They are fairly close in terms of how competitive. You have to remember that with top ranked schools there is little difference between them in terms of admissions. If you school is sending people to Amherst and Williams with a 3.5 your GPA should not be an issue. With that in mind I switch Claremont Mckenna to a low reach, as long as you apply EDII…

:( Didn’t get in

American Asian - a little reach. International Asain-Huge reach. GL
