Please chance me for: Cornell EARLY DECISION

Major : Computer Science

NOTE:I was really immature and stupid when I started high school, and got so much more smarter as I approached senior year, so maybe the upward trend will help?

Over the summer I went to a diffrent country and saw how smart the students there were and became motivated and from then on vowed to do better in math and science! This will most likely be my Essay Topic.

Chance me with all of the stats above please!

I’d say you have a good shot, but what do I know I’m not an adcom. And most of the people on here aren’t adcoms so I am not sure if they can give you accurate chances. Hell I don’t even think an adcom can give you accurate chances. I say just apply and find out in December or in the spring.

Thanks Im so anxious to know, Cornell would be my #1 School! Im just worried like crap because I saw their statistics and 98% were in the top 25% of their class or something, which puts me at odds with the 2% that were not at top 25% of their class (and those 2% are probably athletes that were recruited)

I think you should stop worrying. Instead you should get off CC and focus on your essays. And learn how to spell. I don’t think the adcoms are going to like an essay full of spelling errors.

To be honest, your class rank is incredibly low. Whether your GPA is good or not, your rank puts it into context… And unfortunately, your only in the top half of your class. Even if you were in the top quarter, it would be reach. So in any case, given your rank, I would say it’s a very high reach… But still apply, you never know!!

You may want to consider applying for Arts and Sciences: Computer Science. While it has a lower admit rate, it also uses a more holistic admissions approach, and may be more easily swayed by a great essay/recommendation and less focused on statistics.

I have never thought of that, so you really think placing Arts and Sciences as my primary college of choice and Engineering as my second will increase my chances? (even by a small amount)??

When I looked at statistics the acceptance % was alot less than that of Engineering’s but If I place Engineering as second option then will the Engineering school review my application with just as much weight as if I were to place is as my first option?

“Only exceptional candidates with a serious intellectual passion satisfied by the alternate choice college or school will be considered. The decision to consider an alternate choice application is at the discretion of the admission committee in the alternate choice college.”
There’s a chance the Engineering school might not even review your application.

This is a life lesson learned…, I was talking to the person ranked 6/185 the other day, and they have SAT scores that are horrible (580M 540CR), and have only taken 2 AP’s! Just because they consistently worked (and took easy classes for high grades) since 9th grade, they have a better chance then me :(

I think they will take into consideration the high school you are attending when they look at your rank. And also many people go to schools where they do not rank, so I don’t think your rank will hurt you that much.
