Hey guys,

I'm an OOS applicant from New Jersey. I'm also a Asian Male if that helps. I applied regular decision to UMD for Computer Engineering. Here are my ACT Scores:

31 Composite (35 English, 29 Math, 34 Reading, 26 Science)
31 Composite (33 English, 31 Math, 33 Reading, 26 Science)
32 Superscore(35 English, 31 Math, 34 Reading, 26 Science)

My GPA is 4.37 on a 4.5 scale. That would be equivalent to 3.88 on a 4.0 scale.

Extracurriculars are nothing special:
Newspaper Editor/Staff Writer
Yearbook Club
Science National Honor Society
Math League
Business Club
Reading Buddy Volunteer @ Local Library
Summer Reading Volunteer @ Local Library

Thanks for reading!

Hey fellow New Jersey-ian and ECE student!
Your ACT is pretty good! It’s equivalent to 1400-1430 SAT, which is about 75th percentile among admitted students, meaning you should get into engineering based on that, despite the fact that it’s an LEP. Your GPA is also about 75th percentile among admitted students.
My one red flag is the fact that your English/Reading ACT scores are significantly higher than your math/science ACT scores. Seeing as you want to go into engineering, this could potentially pose an issue.
Also, any leadership positions? You could probably count the honor society/volunteering as leadership, but I’m just wondering if you have anything more traditional. Not a HUGE deal, but it could help!

You look pretty good.

I will say though I think you could definitely improve on your ACT. Try to get your Science into the 30s which shouldn’t be too challenging. You just need to know how to read graphs and that ACT will go to a 33.

@TerpGuy I have already applied to UMD for the Regular Decision period, so improving on the ACT is out of the question at this point. I’m mainly asking for my chances because I applied Regular Decision and not Priority, which might be an issue. Thanks for responding.

So can anyone chance me on the basis that Im applying for the Regular Decision period?

Don’t worry you will get in…29-31 in math is not low at all for any major…Composite is 31 which is at the 75th percentile…This is like your safety college.

We have a lot of students from New Jersey and with competitive scores like that I think you’ll fit right in. The James Clark School of Engineering is pretty competitive and I myself was CE my first semester - I think you stand a good chance.
