Chance me for Cornell and Johns Hopkins

Hi, I want to know if it’s even worth applying to Cornell (CALS) and JHU with my stats because the schools are so competitive.

White, middle-class male. Biological engineering/ molecular biology major
ACT: 30 as of now, but I studied over the summer and am averaging around 34-35. My goal is 35

GPA: (out of 100) UW: 95.5 W: 98.7 (All honors/ 9 APs) Rank: (not out yet) but definitely 20 or less (I think near 10) out of 300

SAT2s: Biology M: 790; Math 1: 750; Physics: 710

ECs:
All State Trombonist
5 time All-County Trombonist (Principle in both band and orchestra twice)
Eagle Scout
NHS President
Tri-M HS President
Literary arts magazine literary editor
Mathletes
Jazz Band, Marching Band, District Band (Principal 4x), Pit Orchestra
Gender Equality Club
Christian Club
Church Youth Group (100+ service hours and missions trips over summer to Las Vegas; Lima, Peru among other places
all of the other little honor societies
Performing Arts Groups outside of school also

Like I just want to know is it worth even applying or should I just stick to my less competitive schools?

bump

The main concern I see going wrong is your ACT. A 30 is below average for Cornell. The average for both Cornell and JH is 32-33.

Your UW GPA is slightly below average for Cornell and JH.

Your ECs and leadership is very good although if you placed around top chairs, including that would help. I would just send in Bio and Math SAT 2.

If you can boost up your ACT to a 34/35 Cornell and JH could potentially become Low Reaches.

Otherwise for now, they are Reaches

okay, if it makes any difference, I now have a 34 on the ACT

Yeah your chances went up. Apply! They are closer to your grasp now
