PS: NOT SURE WHICH SCHOOL TO APPLY TO YET; IM STUCK BETWEEN ARTS AND SCIENCES, HUM EC, AND CALS

All I have to say is pick the school you love the most because college admissions officers (especially at Cornell) can tell if your interests are disingenuous.

It is hard to tell what your focus is, and where you want to head with a potential major and career. Making a clear case that you are an ideal candidate for a particular department at Cornell can help. For example, I see the following disconnects:

  • highly competitive magnet school that only offers one AP course (usually a competitive high school offers many AP courses – is this a performing arts school, and do you plan to major in performing arts? have you won significant awards or done major performances?)
  • multiple volunteer experiences relating to medical field, yet took AP Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Psychology instead of AP Physics, Chemistry and Calculus (are you aiming for science/pre-med degree or economics/business degree?)
  • no science awards at state, national or international level (this will hurt if you were thinking of a pre-med or other science track)

I don’t believe that your dad attending Cornell for MBA has the same influence as if he got his bachelor’s there, but I could be mistaken.

I personally think it’s a very long shot to get into Cornell, but you never know. Try to present a cohesive application to increase your chances, and consider whether there are any less competitive places where you would rather apply ED.

@fuji215215 You self-studied 4 AP’s? Did you take the tests, and if so what scores for them? That is interesting. Also, you have down you were a dancer for 10 years, did you win any awards. According to a recent article, I had studied, Ivy’s are now looking for well-studied applicants, not well-rounded. They no longer care as much that you were in 10 different clubs, but rather that you diligently attended the couple or even on that you were in. If you were a diligent dancer (or still are) for 10 years, and had no merit to show for it, what is that going to look like?

@mommyrocks
I guess I’m interested in a liberal arts education, but I want to go into medicine. I was scared that my application wouldn’t fit together, but I’m writing my personal statement on a common theme between my extra circulars, I just didn’t go too much into detail here. my school is an allied health and biomedical sciences school but it is fairly new, and only offers four aps, of which I am taking 3. the APs I self studied for I received solid 4s and 5s for, and I hope things work out! Thank u for the feedback :slight_smile:

@whenderson272 yes, I took four APs self studied. I received 4s and 5s on most of them except for Macro (3). I won awards within my dance school, but the style of dance I do is not considered to ever be a competitive style, and is more of a cultural one. This is evident to colleges, I know, because a LOT of Indian girls dance this style and do not have awards. I really hope all works out. ::))
