Very off topic, but I almost never see anyone applying for Philosophy, especially Asians, and wanted to say that it’s cool to see another who is! I’m in a really similar position as you. I am an Asian guy who also have a 3.77 UW GPA at a super competitive school in which I’m in the top 5% of the class. I’m applying as a Literary Arts and Philosophy double concentrator and have participated in Scholastic Writing.
Your profile is a lot more impressive than mine, though, so I am sure you have far better chances than I do.
I wish you the best of luck with Brown ED!
Have a nice day.
Thank you! I’m glad to find another Asian dude interested in phil/the liberal arts. I’m just lucky my parents have supported me in doing whatever I find interesting, and haven’t forced me to do traditional asian-things like tennis, CS, engineering, etc.
Dartmouth is a high reach for pretty much everyone. If you can avoid sending your Subject scores that would be good. You other stats will probably get you considered but it’s basically a lottery after that, unless they are specifically targeting you for debate. Good luck!
Should be given strong consideration for admission.
If I may ask, are you being recruited by any schools for debate / forensics ?
Some schools, yes.
What type of debate? ToC appearances? National tournaments?
Lincoln Douglas debate, appearance at the TOC, top speaker awards at national bid tournaments, multiple top 8 or top 16 appearances at the Yale, Stanford, Berkeley, and others.
I think applying ED you have a great shot. But I wouldn’t send the SAT 2 scores.
And I don’t know about sending 5 letters. I don’t think schools will want that many.
Yeah, I would just pick and choose
Excellent record @Wyntersauce. Congratulations. Debate was definitely a plus for my daughter (a 13) at Dartmouth [as well as Harvard & Georgetown]. She knew the coaches well from the various tournaments where they had been judges and had assurances from those schools that they wanted her. It was not as strong as hook as being a star athlete, but I doubt she would have gotten a likely letter otherwise. Hope it helps you as well. Good luck, ATS
Thank you @AboutTheSame ! I’ve been speaking to the Georgetown coaches as well as some other schools- I agree that it is an excellent hook.
