Chance me for each of these schools please! (I will chance back within the few hours!)

Hello,

I go to a nationally acclaimed public magnet school specifically for business (intended major), and my unweighted GPA is a 3.815- my school does not weight GPA. I had a 3.446 freshman year, and 4.0's sophomore and junior year. All my freshman and sophomore courses were very rigorous due to the nature of my school, and all my junior courses were taught at the IB level. In addition, I will graduate with the IB Diploma.

I have a 2250 on the SAT, as well as a 750 on the Chemistry and US History SAT II, and a 780 on the Math SAT II.

I have leadership positions on six clubs, three of which I have founded as not for profits, and made them clubs at my school. I also have the Presidential Award for Volunteer Service, and have 250+ volunteer hours (from trips and steady, weekly hours). I also designed a community service project at Villanova.

I am also on NHS, Spanish Honor Society, and am decently accomplished on my school's Model UN Team, and very accomplished on my schools DECA chapter, (won numerous awards/am on the chapter board).

I also do business research at my school, and have done political campaigning, and have had two internships in finance/business. I am also on my school's golf team, and an editor for the school newspaper. I am also a part of many business/finance/economics things at my school and am decently accomplished in them (Federal Reserve Challenge, Business Professionals of America, Future Business Leaders of America).

I have also won a few writing competitions, part of church youth group, and am part of my school store's management team. I have also founded a crowdfunding project to supply water filtration straws to children in a few African countries.

As part of one of the clubs I lead, we went on a trip to Cambodia to help build schools using funds we raised.

I have also attended a one week program at Georgetown, and three week program at Brown.

I would also appreciate any recommendations for safety schools. I live in NJ and am a white male.

Schools: Princeton, UC Berkeley (for these schools I would be applying with a 4.0 because they do not count freshman year grades in the cumulative GPA), Dartmouth, Brown, Georgetown, Cornell, Northwestern,* Boston College, NYU (Stern), Villanova, UPenn (CAS), UPenn (Wharton), Duke, University of Michigan, Vanderbilt.

*For these schools, please include my chances for RD/ED.

Thanks in Advance- I will chance back! Oh, and feel free to give me school suggestions.

Princeton high reach
UC Berkeley match
Dartmouth reach
Brown match (due to programs attended)
Georgetown low reach
Cornell low reach
Northwestern match
Boston College safety
NYU safety but very expensive
UPenn reach
Duke low reach
University of Michigan safety but expensive
Vanderbilt match

If I were you I would also consider UCLA and USC as well as UC Berkeley. These are also great schools. Test scores are a strong. You might want to include major or area of interest to study in as well as your class schedule for any AP/ Honors classes.
Chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1671686-chance-me-for-a-chance-back.html#latest

Your ECs are good but don’t stand out - it may come down to just how good you are at those business things (which we can’t tell from your description).

Princeton - reach either way
UC Berkeley - high match (match if in California)
Dartmouth - reach (low reach if ED)
Brown - same as above
Georgetown - low reach
Cornell - low reach
Northwestern - high match (match if ED)
Boston College - safety
NYU (Stern) - low match? not sure
Villanova - not sure
UPenn (CAS) - reach (low reach if ED)
UPenn (Wharton) - reach either way
Duke - low reach (possible Tufts syndrome?)
University of Michigan - match
Vanderbilt - high match

@clarinetkid‌ Duke? Possibly Tufts Syndrome? What? Lol. Tufts Syndrome is when a school denies/waitlists and applicant who they think will turn down an acceptance (thus protecting yield)…

Leadership positions in 6 clubs is too much. How are you committed to SIX clubs? I can see 2-3, but 6? And founded 3?

Your trips and programs reek of privilege. Don’t exaggerate them as much as you may want to because they don’t look as good as you think they do.

Princeton, Stern, and Wharton are HIGH reaches.

If you’re in CA, UCB is a match. If not, low reach.

Georgetown, Cornell, NU, Vandy, Duke Reach

I think the rest are a match.

Don’t apply to Penn CAS thinking adcoms won’t realize that you want Wharton… It’s not a pass to get in haha.

You need matches and safeties. What’s your SAT breakdown?

@noel597 is that unreasonable here? I had a friend with similar stats to the OP; she got into Brown and MIT but was outright rejected at Duke. Sorry if my anecdotal evidence is flawed lol.

@clarinetkid‌
I doubt that was due to “Tufts Syndrome”. I think Duke is actually ranked higher than Brown. Duke is right up there with the Ivy League schools!

@noel597 Duke lists demonstrated interest as a factor in admissions, which means an applicant like my friend (who was obviously “good” enough to get into MIT) who tries to use it as a sort of second-tier backup to her top choices (which was my friend’s intention) will have less of a chance of getting in. Not saying Duke is any worse of a school than MIT, but MIT doesn’t consider demonstrated interest.

What I’m trying to say is that even schools that are super-selective can practice Tufts syndrome if the applicant doesn’t show interest - a high ranking doesn’t mean they don’t do it. I could be wrong, of course.

and btw Brown is an Ivy League school haha

@clarnietkid I know Brown is an Ivy League School. It isn’t a HYP, though. On US world news, Duke is ranked higher.

I doubt your friend didn’t get into Duke because of tufts syndrome

@noel597 We should stop hijacking OP’s thread, but I just think we’re disagreeing on what Tufts syndrome is. Admitted students’ profiles at Tufts and WUStL (school known for Tufts syndrome) have similar, if very slightly (~10 SAT points) lower score ranges than at Duke, so it’s not like students who get in are much weaker than those who are denied/waitlisted. The deciding factor for these schools is interest, because a lot of kids - like my friend - are also applying to top tier schools, and if they get into those, they’re unlikely to go to Tufts/WUStL. Yes, I know Duke is hard to get into on its own, but I’m labeling its use of applicants’ interest as “Tufts syndrome”: in this case, not protecting its yield from better universities but rather peer universities that might be more attractive. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I’d be happy to discuss this with you by PM instead of spamming the OP.

@noel597, why do you feel my EC’s reek of privilege? I know that the geographic area that my school is in opens up opportunities to me that may not be available to other applicants, but I don’t think it’s anything out of the ordinary or over the top.

I actually thought that my EC’s were one of the highlights of my applications, even though I am involved in six organizations, I am thoroughly involved in each of them, and have held leadership positions since freshman year for the clubs that I did not found.

In regards to my trips and programs, I am aware that they will not be a big factor in my admissions, but I still think that colleges will appreciate the interest in my intended area of study.

Thank you to the other commentors!
