Chance me for ED class of 2024? (I'm desperate!)

Hey guys & gals! I’ve ghosted for quite some time on this forum and now is my shot to post something of my own! I’ve had my heart set on Northwestern ever since I visited some relatives living in north Chicago and I am absolutely in love with the campus… I was just wondering if any kind soul could chance me for Weinberg (major: biochemistry)

Asian male
Upper Income, not 1st gen student, national merit commended

GPA: 4.02UW/4.34W
ACT: 35C (35E,34M,36R,36S) but if i superscore i have a 36…
I’ve taken AP Bio (5), AP Euro (4), AP BC (5). I just took AP Lang, APUSH, and AP Chem with Multivariate Calc and Linear Algebra and Post-AP Anatomy and Physiology. I’m planning on taking AP econ (micro+macro), AP Physics C, AP Lit, AP Comp Sci, linear Algebra II, and one other class lol.

Awards/Honors: American Junior Academy of Science Inductee, Highest Honors, Volunteer of the Year, MathCON Finalist (13th place nationally), Ohio Statistical Association Award for Excellence in Research

Extracurriculars (all 4 years):
Math Team
Quizbowl
Internship at CWRU - Indep. project with aid of mentor
Internship at Cleveland CLinic - Indep. project with aid of mentor
JV sport
Play violin and piano
Write for school newspaper

Work/Volunteering: Volunteering for the past 4 years now, won volunteer of the year, nursing home. Also I tutor kids in math at a center (similar to Kumon or other centers if it is familiar with you guys). I am pretty passionate about community outreach and plan to write my essays with that in mind. My common app essay is about my work and my passion for helping others, when these ventures teach me life lessons

Other stuff: I got nothing. Might have some good recs, both very nice teachers, in addition to my college counselor who knows me v well. I might either get my volunteering coordinator or my boss to write my supplemental rec. Any suggestions in that regard? I could even get my mentor at my internship to write it, i’m not exactly sure who to pick…

i should specify maybe, the mathCON thing is an international commendation, Academy of Science is national, the rest are state/regional

I seldom reply to “chance me” threads - because if you are smart enough to apply to NU - then you’re smart enough to know that only an AdCom can answer your question. However, as the father of 2 NU McCormick engineering alums, I have to say that you look to me to be a top prospect. Congratulations on your grades, degree of difficulty and ECs!

I am not sure what your ultimate goal is, but this link might be helpful: https://www.ibis.northwestern.edu/research/biochemistry-structural-biology-biophysics.html

Good Luck!

I agree that your record is very strong. Applying ED should give you a very high probability of acceptance. Please make sure you spend time writing essays that connect your activities, your intended major, and NU’s offering.

Thank you guys so much for the wonderful comments! I’m greatly reassured!!!

I think you have a great profile. Apply ED for that boost, along with some schools you know will take you, and then get apps ready to go in case you don’t get accepted to NU. Good luck.

Can you chance me here as well? For ED

Academics:
SAT I: Not taken yet, but expecting 1410-1470 with math 770-800 and verbal 640-670

IB (predicted): 42/45
HL: Math (7), Chemistry (7), Physics (7)

School doesn’t provide rank but probably 10-5 % percentile
( I was also one of the top 100 (out of 430,000+) students in my national examinations and got several awards for that)

All my teacher, whom I am asking for letters, and my counselor like me very much, so I will say they all would be a 9/10.

@collegeseeker216 I have three main comments.

First of all, your stats are great. I think that your chances are pretty good. However, with an acceptance rate of less than 10%, it is still a very long way from being a sure thing.

Secondly, you need to find out what your budget is. If you cannot afford to be full pay without taking on loans, then you should run the NPC and see what it is likely to cost you. I would only apply ED if whatever the NPC shows is okay with you and with your parents.

There are a lot of very good universities. Given your great success to this point in time, I think that you will be very successful wherever you end up going to university. You definitely need to focus on finding other safer schools to apply to.

And @Nasir7, you should start your own thread. Many of us would be happy to respond to your question on a different thread, but this thread is to reply to @collegeseeker216’s chances. This is not a generic “chances for northwestern” thread.

everything looks great except your SAT (can you retake? If English is your second language that might explain the lower verbal scores). IB scores are impressive as are SAT II. The low income part could be an issue. I don’t know if NWU meets full need for international students nor how they calculate “need”. Run their online calculator to see if accepted , it might work out for you financially. Best of luck to you and the OP.
