Chance me for ED UPenn Wharton?

I was initially going to apply REA Stanford, but I’d figured that it’d be best for me to apply ED/EA to somewhere else that I’d still love to go to because of Stanford’s rate difference between REA and RD is so minimal.

Ethnicity: Asian
9th-11th GPA: 3.81 UW, 4.12 W (my HS doesn’t offer any AP/honors at my school)
10th-11th GPA: 3.77 UW, 4.25 W
10th GPA: 4.0 W
11th GPA: 4.5 W (upward trend I guess)
UC GPA: 4.08
ACT: 35C (34 E, 35 M, 36 R, 35 S)
SAT Subjects: 700 Bio E (going to retake), going to take Math 2 this November.
AP’s 10th-11th: AP Comp Sci (2), APUSH (3), AP Bio, APES… (I only have a single 3 and didn’t take AP Bio/APES exam)
AP’s 12th: AP Human Geo, AP US Gov, AP Calc AB
HS Rank: Top 9% (my school doesn’t let us know what specific rank we’re in, so it’s either you’re in the top 9% of your grade or you’re not)
I also took one CC course, Intro to Bus, and got an A
Rec. Letters: Both from my English 11 (he’s the only AP Lang teacher at my school) and APUSh teachers. Expecting great letters of rec. from them. I’m also getting an additional LOR from my CEO when I worked at a web-designing company (look below). He will explain my creativity that I brought to the table and my passion for entrepreneurship.

E.C’s:
-President of Key Club (organized collection drives, UNICEF Halloween drive, etc.)
-President/Founder of Stock Market Club (planning to participate in state/regional virtual investment contests)
-VP of DECA club
-HS soccer for 2 years and competitive club soccer for many years.
-HS track for 1 year
-HS band for 2 years
-NHS member for 3 years
-Competitive ballet for ~10 years (wrote my common app about this)
-Coached elementary/middle-school kids soccer at a Korean-American soccer organization in a local city for 3-4 years.
-Paid internship as a business marketing apprentice at an import/exporting company.
-Worked as a regular employee at a web designing company with an above-average pay than just minimum wage. I got recruited as a web design for their company for 2 summers, since I couldn’t work during the school year. Although I have some interest and ability in computer graphic designs, I don’t wish to pursue this as a possible major of mine in college.
-Raised a collection drive for a non-profit organization (New Eyes, a 501c-nonprofit organization) and collected hundreds of glasses during this summer, and looking forward to continue this project for a couple of more months into my senior year.
-Started an online business and planning to create a kickstarter, but don’t know if the results and accomplishments of this business will prevail in time for application deadlines

I hope my EC’s will show my interests for business (more specifically, entrepreneurship) while my GPA isn’t that great. Thanks!

I think that you have a pretty decent chance. Your competitive ballet probably isn’t something very common, so that will help set you apart. Your ACT score was superb, so would not be surprised if you got in.

Thanks!

Please, any feedback/opinion would be greatly appreciated!

Bump…

Are you going to send in your AP scores?

@Salutation I don’t know, I’m debating whether or not to because if I just send in a single “3”, wouldn’t that look awful? If I sent in none, I don’t know how that would look in the eyes of the admission officers compared to the first option. What are your thoughts on this?

I think you’ll get in.

@gearsstudio Isn’t Wharton’s selectively relatively close to HYPSM?

@ayyyyyyy Yep.

@gearsstudio So why do you say that my chances are relatively good, if you wouldn’t mind me asking? Sorry, personally, I honestly think that I have very slim chance of getting into Stanford, let alone Wharton. Not that I’m criticizing your opinion (which I greatly appreciate!), but I’m just curious.

@ayyyyyyy Everything besides your AP scores seems pretty good. I know Wharton puts lots of emphasis on actual business experience, something you have a good amount of. As long as your essays are good, I think you have a good shot.

I think you’re competitive and it’s really just worth your best shot and a coin toss at this point

You’re competitive, test score-wise and grade-wise. I’m not sure about your extracurriculars, however. You’re the President of 3 clubs but so are a lot of the applicants who are applying to UPenn.

You wrote about dance for your essay?..I hope that you genuinely love dance and it is your thing…If not, don’t waste your time. Everyone writes about dance or their sport/club.

What kind of business are you applying for? Which concentration at Wharton?

Shout-out for being President of Key Club!! You’re making a difference in your home, school, community, and the world

You have a superb ACT score and relatively high GPA, but your AP test scores kind of drag you down as an applicant. Now if Wharton doesn’t see those scores, than you should have a pretty decent score. Sorry if I’m being to o critical, but your ECs kind of show a lack of dedication. They’re kind of scattered and the time you spent in the event is short. However your business and summer work is incredibly impressive. Good luck!

@dawn26 @divinggirl6 Thanks! And I wrote about how doing ballet as a male has made me undergo the hardships of gender perception and etc. and how it has made me who I am today (super vague description, but oh well haha).

Oh that’s a really interesting spin then! I like it!
