Chance me for Emory ED II, will chance back :D

International Student (Indian descent, Singapore passport)

FULL PAYING STUDENT ***

We don't have GPA in the IB but probably around 3.6 (yea , not too good )

SAT : 2130 , 740 math 700 reading 690 writing

SAT II : Math level 2 760 , Physics 720

IB : 36 HL Math 5 , Physics 6, ITGS 5
SL Chem 7 , English 6, French 5

References: I was predicted much higher in ITGS and teacher sensed foul play in my exam so she gave me a wonderful reference. Got another supposedly good one from my chem teacher

Extra Currs:
- National level chess player, was ranked in the top 5 of my country at u16 and am right now one of the top u19 players. FIDE rating : 1800 (Master is around 2000, to put it into perspective). Have around 10 national level trophies from high school years.
-100s of hours of community service with a service excellence award from my school
-Created school chess team and captained it to get 10th place in my country (quite impressive as we didn't even have a functional team before)

Chance me for Emory Comp Sci Plss :D not oxford though!

Your chances of getting in are pretty high because you’re an international student.
Here on CC, I see people who say that a 38 on HL are not good for emory, but idk
Your ECs are great!

Umm I would say that Emory is a high match for you

Good luck!

@ImNYUobsessed‌ Yea I kind of messed up my IB; however, a kid with 37 and 2110 SAT got in last year though so 38 definitely is good enough (i guess it also depends on course rigor, which is ridiculously rigorous for me ahah). I am hoping the fact I am international + Chess + above emory average SATs and subject SATs + the fact I am a commited ED international student will get me in , fingers crossed!

I’m an IB student too! Listen, don’t attempt to convert you’re IB score into GPA - it won’t work as the GPA uses a grade scale and the IBO uses it’s own score scale, they aren’t comparable.

You’ve IB score is pretty good but since American universities don’t tend to look at predicted grades it won’t count for much. They’ll look more at your semester/term IB grades to gauge how you do throughout the year rather than on final exams - consistency is key! I’d say you’ve got a decent chance, just make sure you’re essays are really good. To get a better idea of your chances, if you’re school uses naviance, check your stats against those of previously admitted students. Should give you a rough idea of your chances.

@pink997 oh no those are not my predicted scores, those are my finals! I took a gap year and yea according to my naviance im a high match /low reach ish applicant but the applicant pool from my school isn’t big hence I am not too sure D:

Oh and I forgot to mention that in the 10th grade IGCSE exams, I got 4 A stars and 6 As :D. Not sure the US cares too much about the IGCSEs but hey, ill put it out there ;)

They do care as they count as your 9/10th grades. However, depending on how your school writes transcripts colleges may only see your final IGCSE grades or your external and internal grades.

I’m sure you’ll get in. Just make sure your essays are really good. Dont lose hope!

Thanks! I’m not losing hope dw  Bump

I think you have a good chance at emory …
My sister got in with a similar GPA, around 2030 in her SAT and average SAT II - around 680 in Bio and 690 in physics

You have better stats than her and plus you applied ED !

I don’t think you have anything to worry about ! you have a good shot
Good luck !

I’d say you have a good chance, your scores are about average for Emory, and ED should help too.
Also, that chess ranking is awesome!

bump

Bump

your SAT should cover your back for the 36…but even that from the IB being such a difficult curriculum…admissions will take it into account. so yeah…definitely you should be able to get in

I think it is a match…didn’t see anything in your stats that could possibly turn you down. And the chess rankings are really impressive

bump D:

match!

bump

I’d say it’s a match. Applying ED and the national chess stuff looks really good. Just write creative essays, but I would say you’re in for sure.
Thanks for chancing me as well, and good luck!
