Chance me for GW, American and Villanova?

I’m applying to all three schools and have been told so many different things about my chances what do you guys think?
Here are my stats:
Race: White
Gender: male
Economic status: middle class
City: NYC
I go to a very competitive school in NYC not sure if that matters
GPA 3.1 UW (not sure how to weight it)
APs: I’ve taken 5 out of the 8 offered: APUSH(5) AP World(5) AP Comp Sci(?) AP English Lang(?) AP Bio (?)
SAT: 1430
SAT 2: 770 US history 760 World
ECs: I interned at a city hall in NJ over the summer and even got a letter of Rec from him. I assisted in my brothers baseball league during equipment days they have twice a year and also help tutor kids at my local church after school, in addition to 3 yrs at my HS MUN club.
Letters of recommendation: the city clerk I mentioned as well as my APUSH + AP world teachers who Im sure wrote good letters.
My essay: my common app essay is something I’m really proud of and my GW essay was pretty good too
If I’m missing anything please let me know thanks!
Just so you know:
I’m applying to GW ED2 and have been demonstrating interest
American RD
And Nova EA
Thanks in advance!

Your gpa seems low compared to your SAT and APs? Does your school grade particularly harshly or are you just much better at test-taking?

My school grades pretty harshly I think we’re one of the top schools in NYC. I think a lot of kids with higher grades will be applying to GW regular, will that effect my chances?

Does your school have naviance? This may be the better way to evaluate your chances if school grading is quite different to the norm. We put a lot of work into analyzing GW and AU as they were my daughter’s #2 and #3 choice, but tbh I’m not really sure how to chance you with such an apparent divergence between gpa and test scores. So sorry this is not actually that helpful :frowning: Naviance might give you a better idea - it helped us as my daughter also had a divergence from what seems more common, but not nearly as big as yours. I’m sure you already know your GPA looks low but SAT is the right range for these schools.
GW will evaluate you against the other applicants from your school in the same round afaik. The gpa looks low to me but if the school profile indicates harsh grading it could help you. Which school in GW did you apply to? That could affect it as well - Elliot is more competitive than the others.
American can sometimes be quite difficult RD. Perversely, a lower gpa could help here as they think you’d be more likely to attend - they are very sensitive to being used as a safety. They do like to see a lot of interest so hopefully you’ve attended a tour or info session, chatted to or interviewed with your rep, etc.
Sorry that wasn’t very helpful at the end of the day…but good luck.

Thank you so much for your help! When you say same round do you mean ED2 and RD being gone through together? The submit date is the same so I was a little confused there. But no one else is applying ED2. I’m applying Columbian school of arts and sciences.

Vs other ED2.

AU is really big on ED. Last year, the ED acceptance rate was 84.5% while the RD rate was 28.8%. For my kid’s school, it has the strangest Naviance chart I’ve ever seen. In the RD round, it seems like high stats actually hurt you. As far as Nova goes, results come out at 5 pm today, no point in speculating now.

“In the RD round, it seems like high stats actually hurt you.”
Yup, my D’s naviance too, though there aren’t dozens of applications. Seems a decent standardized test score and a gpa above 3 gets offers; 4 and above or too high on the test scores gets waitlist or reject. Backs up the perception that they don’t want to be applied to as a safety.
ED acceptance rate is high, but as i recall the actual number is fairly low (somewhere in the hundreds), leaving significant room for RD offers. (Edit: checked this on the cds, last ED admitted around 750 students out of total offers around 5500)

Does applying ED2 help me at GW? It’s my top choice?

ED always helps with GW

Yes it will help, they were open about that at the info session.

I know the acceptance rate of GW ED is like 60 percent or something and the RD is 35 ish. Is that because the people applying ED are better students or does the interest really make that big of a difference?

It’s because you have committed to going if you get an offer. It helps them structure the class, protect yield etc.
