Please chance me and I will attempt to chance you back

Excellent academic stats; that upward trend also works to your advantage, especially since freshman year is usually looked at with a grain of salt. The main problem seems to be that your ECs are lacking. If you can do something that will make you stand out ahead of other applicants then you have a great chance at getting into 1-2 of HYPSM. I know someone with a similar cumulative GPA, had nearly perfect test scores and one particularly strong EC (Columbia honors science program); he applied to HYPM. He was waitlisted at all but Princeton, where he was accepted (in addition, he was waitlisted at Brown and accepted at Columbia, Dartmouth, among other outstanding schools).

I do think you have a great-excellent shot at all of your other choices; people on these forums will claim that your lack of ECs will kill you but just having those top-tier test scores opens up tons of opportunities.

Your scores are great and your grades are pretty good but you are really lacking in ECs. All I see is chess.

So Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, and JHU would be reaches. The rest are high, high reaches. Are you a leader of anything? In any other clubs? etc.

yea unfortunately i am majorly lacking in the extra curriculars; how much more do you think i would need to do to have enough for the top schools
Also I did JV mock trial 9-11 (and probably 12)

The chess thing is actually pretty impressive, but not enough for those schools. Remember, there’s always transferring.

Hey, thanks for chancing me! As for your app, I think HYPMS are reaches for anyone and that you probably have a shot at one or two of these but your UW GPA is a tad low. As for the rest, I think Columbia is 50/50 while the others are even better than that, especially JHU. Good luck!

bump…

Like everyone else, I’d say that HYPSM and Columbia are definitely reaches. You have great scores and all, but no extracurriculars that especially stand out. Excellent essays could be the key.

also the school i go to is very competitive with id say about 15-20% going to ivy league schools
