chance me for HYPMS?

Hi, I'm Michael and I'm completely new here. Sorry in advance if I'm doing this all completely wrong, but I'm leaving out a few details on this chance me thread to make it a bit harder to identify me.

GPA: 3.92/4.00 (ranked 3rd in a highly competitive, selective school)

APs: Calc BC (5), US History (4), Micro (5), Macro (5), Physics C (5 mech 5 e+m), Chem (5), Enviro (4), Stats (4), English Lit (5)

Tests
ACT: 36 (36 on all subscores, 9 writing)
SAT: 2320 (740 Writing 800 Math 780 CR)
Subject Tests: Math II (800), Physics (800), Bio (800)
AMC 12: 100.5 AIME: 10 (missed USAMO)

ECs: Science Olympiad (3 years / co-president), Math Team (4 years / captain), Cross-Country (2 years JV / Varsity), 500ish hours of volunteering as a tutor for young children, part of a research group in high energy physics (I'm working there year-round), ARML team (2 years), NHS

Awards: Numerous city/regional/state awards in science olympiad and math, but nothing extraordinary.

Summers: Played volleyball for the school's summer team (1 year), Math Camp (2 years), High energy physics research (1 year), Tutoring

I feel like I fit too snugly into the stereotype of "typical asian male applicant" (which I am) and that'll probably hurt me a lot. Chances for HYPMS?

Thanks so much.

I’m no expert at this or anything but to me it seems like people with a 36 or a 2400 almost always get into at least one of HYPMS, especially with good grades, rank, and EC’s.

i think you got it

^Agreed with MW2. A perfect score on either the ACTs or the SATs means that your application will at the very least always be considered at HYP. Combine that with a great GPA and other tests scores, and you have flawless objective stats. However, I unfortunately would have to agree with the OP, in that he does fit the ORM stereotype; a lack of any significant ECs is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect application.

HYPMS are all within reach, but you being an unhooked, Asian candidate will dampen those chances.

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far! (btw, I’m still hoping for a few more opinions on my chances)

And just wondering, should I try to weave the 10 on AIME into my common app somewhere? I know MIT has a spot for that on the application but would it be a good idea to put that down for the other colleges that don’t ask for it?

yes, definitely try to work it in somewhere (maybe even an essay, if you’re that passionate about math). a 10 on the aime, to colleges, is very good!
