Chance me for Ivy's, UCs, MIT, and more :P

Sup, here's the schools you should chance me at:

Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Harvard, Harvey Mudd, MIT, Northwestern, Princeton, Stanford, UChicago, UC-Berkeley, UC-LA, UI-UC, USC, and Yale.

Major: CS / Math, or Physics
Basic: White, Male, rural Illinois
School: Public, virtually nobody goes on to top-colleges
Income: Less than $20,000
"Hooks" (lol): Low-income, single parent (widowed), rural area, QuestBridge Finalist

ACT (best / superscored): 34 Comp | 35 E, 36 M, 34 R, 36 S, 10 W
SAT Subject Tests: 800 Chem, 800 Math 2

GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: 3rd (Top 1%)

APs: 5s on Bio, Chem, Eng Lang, US Gov't. | 4 on US Hist
Senior Courses: Human Anatomy, Spanish 4, AP Lit, Economics, Statistics, AP Calc BC, PE

ECs:
-Robotics | President (12), VP (11), Founding Member (11)
-Theatre Crew | Tech Director (9-12), International Thespian Society
-Mathletes | (10-12), won some small awards from local conferences, nothing big
-Quiz Bowl | Co-Captain (12), nothing past school-wide awards
-Key Club | (9-12), VP (12), typical community service
-Link Crew | (10, 12), Mentor incoming freshman

**Robotics is the closest thing our school district comes to having a science club. School does little to foster interest in science, definitely pops up in my essays.*

I've helped a local hospital over the summers in their IT department, also helped set up some computers at a retirement home. I work at the local theatre, do small work as a spanish tutor, and mentored some kid over the summer. Nothing big.

I don't have any big nation-wide awards, olympiads, etc. though.

My idea is that if I apply to enough of these schools, I'll get accepted into at least one!

Thanks ;)

I think you have a pretty good chance at UCB and UCLA and USC. For the ivies, I think your extra curricular are quite lacking.

I have more ECs, I just don’t believe that I should list them all. Why mention that I’ve been in the foreign language club for three years? We don’t do anything more than eat food (which is why I’m in it, lol), and it’s hardly relevant to my actual interests. Most are not notable enough to list.

I was just thinking of more extraciriculars that are “abnormal.” Internship at a certain place? Started a project that raise $XXXX dollars. etcetc.

Yeah, I don’t have anything like that. Organized our first annual Robotics competition? I’m gonna blame my town / family situation for lack of opportunities like that (the internships, etc.).

Edit: Not going to put blame on anything in my app but, you know what I mean. Hopefully.

Double edit: Oh. Raised $10,000 for our Robotics Club over two years. I’m so good at forgetting things.

/bump it up/

^I don’t think your EC’s are lacking at all, and your attitude is pretty spot on I’d say: “My idea is that if I apply to enough of these schools, I’ll get accepted into at least one!” I think you have a good chance at a lot of those schools, but keep in mind that the ivies are always a crap shoot.

Unfortunately the UCs won’t give an OOS student more than a few thousand dollars in aid, so they’re unrealistic for low income OOS applicants. I think you should get into several of these schools.

I applied since it didn’t cost me much, and I thought I had a chance at getting one of those tasty Regents scholarships.
