Chance me for my list of schools? i will chance back!!

Here is my list of schools (I am OOS for all of them):
I am not including my matches or safeties on this list, I am specifically asking about the tougher schools on my list

Northwestern ED
Vanderbilt ED II
UVA
UNC Chapel Hill
Johns Hopkins
UChicago
UPenn
Washington University in St Louis
Rice
Brown

GPA
W: 4.32 with the hardest course load (school doesnt publish UW on transcripts, but to give you an idea i have had 2 B+'s during freshman and sophomore year)

School doesn’t rank but i’m definitely at least in the top 10%

SAT/SATII
SAT: 680 CR, 770 M, 780 W (Will retake this for my regular decision applications, I expect in the 2300’s)
SAT II: 720 Bio M, 710 French (not native) 720 Math II

AP:
US History (4), Stats (5), Gov (5), Psych (5)

Senior Course Load:
AP Calc BC, AP Physics C, AP Environmental, AP English, AP World, Anatomy (there was a scheduling conflict so i had to take this instead of AP French)

(My main EC is French, as you can tell)

Recommendations:
all 8-9/10

I know I will probably not get in to 99.999% of these schools on my list, but i would just like to know my chances. Please be brutally honest

You probably should calculate your UW GPA. It is the one that matters for these schools. If you have only gotten 2 B grades in high school then your UW GPA is going to be about 3.90 - 3.95 which is exceptionally strong. Your SAT score of 2230 is also very good, particularly with the somewhat lopsided score distribution. You have sufficient course rigor with 4 APs complete and 5 in the works this year. Aside from French, your EC’s are run of the mill. Academically, you are in the running for any of these schools - it will depend on your essays and recommendations. If I were to guess outcome, I’d say:

Northwestern ED - waitlist
Vanderbilt ED II - admit
UVA - admit, in-state?
UNC Chapel Hill - admit, in-state?
Johns Hopkins - admit
UChicago - reject
UPenn - reject
Washington University in St Louis - admit
Rice - admit
Brown - reject

My caution about Vanderbilt ED II - at my regional session, the admission officers said that though the overall ED admit rate is 22,5%, it’s much higher for ED I, and about 10% for ED II. This information isn’t published anywhere, so they could have been wrong I suppose, but that’s what I was told. I just wanted to let you know so you are cognizant of this information, especially since ED II also gets a lot of Ivy rejects, and therefore likely is a more competitive pool than ED I.

@collegebobollege do you think that my chances in ED II would be the same as in RD? or would it be harder to get in ED II?

I suspect it would be about the same - just don’t expect it will be easier

Depending on your essays, good chance you’ll get into northwestern ED

I think you have a good shot at Northwestern ED! the rest of your schools are extremely selective, especially since you’re OOS for UVA and chapel hill; it will all come down to your essays there. Good luck!

Northwestern ED - Deferred
Vanderbilt ED II - Admit
UVA - Admit
UNC Chapel Hill - Admit
Johns Hopkins - Admit
UChicago - Rejected
UPenn - Waitlist
Washington University in St Louis - No Clue
Rice - Admit
Brown - No Clue

@VeniVidiViciDM thanks! is there any particular reason why you think i’ll be deferred from northwestern ed? lol i was just curious, since i thought it would be less of a reach than some of my other schools

Northwestern ED - waitlisted
Vanderbilt ED II - waitlisted
UVA - accepted
UNC Chapel Hill - accepted
Johns Hopkins - rejected
UChicago - rejected
UPenn - rejected
Washington University in St Louis - waitlisted
Rice - waitlisted
Brown - rejected

That’s my prediction at least. I said waitlist if I wasn’t at least 50% confident you’d get in, so I imagine some of those waitlists will likely be accepts, and even some of the rejects!! I’m also a a fellow HS senior, so, take this with a grain of salt.

Good chance for northwestern. How competitive is your school? Are u a urm? Any awards? How do u feel on your essays?

@debate4ever thanks for responding! my school is very competitive, 5th in the state, and often sends kids to top schools. i’m not a urm and all of my awards are basic (nmf, ap scholar, etc) except for the french diploma and i feel like i spent a lot of time on my essays and had them revised by several people so i think they are pretty good (hopefully 8-9/10?)

I’ll make an objective prediction, based on the available statistics on the Internet:

Northwestern ED - Deferred
Vanderbilt ED II - admit
UVA - admit
UNC Chapel Hill - admit
Johns Hopkins - wait list
UChicago - reject
UPenn - reject
Washington University in St Louis - wait list
Rice - reject
Brown - reject

I feel fairly strong with my prediction.

Good luck!

FYI Vanderbilt ED 2 doesn’t have waitlist (just accept or reject)

I bet you will get into more than 1% of those schools. The only thing that sticks out to me is the lack of much leadership in your ECs (correct me if I’m missing it, I’m only glancing quickly). However, you’ve demonstrated much commitment to your ECs, which is better than someone who joined a club one year and became president right away arguably. So, I think you have a good chance at these incredibly competitive schools, and I think you will probably get into one of your ED schools. Best of luck!

Please chance me back

This might be my lack of understanding, but I don’t see a lot of leadership and/or passions besides french in your EC’s. Are you specifically trying to study french? If not, what area in particular?

Northwestern ED - Deferred
Vanderbilt ED II - Admit
UVA - Admit
UNC Chapel Hill - Admit
Johns Hopkins - Admit
UChicago - Rejected
UPenn - Rejected/Waitlist
Washington University in St Louis - Admit
Rice - Admit
Brown - Admit

Johns Hopkins
UChicago
UPenn
Rice
Brown
^ All reaches
Northwestern - Match
You have a good shot at UVA

I think you have a good chance at some of these schools (Northwestern; UNC, WashU, maybe Vanderbilt), but a lot of these will be reach schools, especially UPenn, UChicago, and Brown. Hope it all works out for you!

Northwestern ED: waitlist/accept
Vanderbilt ED II: waitlist/accept
UVA- accept
UNC Chapel Hill- accept
Johns Hopkins- accept
UChicago- waitlist/reject
UPenn- watilist or accept
Washington University in St Louis- waitlist/accept
Rice- accept
Brown- waitlist/accept

Your ECs are good, but not great, so you probably will have difficulty getting into a lot of the schools you mention. I wouldn’t be surprised if you into a few on your list (especially UVA and UNC). The Ivies and UChicago are reaches (as they are for all).
