Its hard to say. If your story painted a different demographic: URM, first gen, rural, legacy, etc. Particularly a demographic that they sorely need, then the scores do matter.
But in your case I don’t think adding 2 points onto your ACT score will matter much. They’re either going to want you or not. Your desirability does not change much with a higher ACT.
Getting into ED at Northwestern is no easy feat, regardless of your stats.
I don’t know if this thread is still alive, but I just got my October SAT score back and it was a 1500! 740 EBRW 760 Math. Does this influence my chances?
Don’t know if it influences but it puts you slightly above the 25th percentile vs b4 you were below.
Interestingly the 1500 is at the 95th percentile vs the 32 at the 97th…at least what pops up on google.
I would submit the 1500, not 32 and don’t look back. I’m not an AO. Both portions are in between 25 and 75 …English and math so you show stronger now .
In the end, you want to go there and you’re aware of the costs so apply.
No one here can say in or not. The odds are against for all but guess what - you’ve done your best, you’re smart, well rounded…athlete, violinist, contributor to those around you.
So apply. You’ve been a great you.
If they accept you and they might, then AWESOME. If they don’t, then some other college gets a great student.
Just make sure you are set on which other schools you’re going to give a chance to grab this awesome student. Hopefully it’s in Evanston but if not, your life will still be awesome because you, not the school, determines your future success.
Thank you for this reply and thanks for being realistic. I am proud of this score and I’m glad I can go into admissions feeling that I did everything I could
But how about scores. My advisor told me my 1480 was not good enough though my math is 790 and I will result in a wait-list at best. I am going test optional because of this. Is this crazy? My grades and ECs are beyond strong.
OP’s new score is within the mid 50% range in total, and for both sections, whereas your 690 EBRW and total of 1480 are both below the 25%ile. (Class of 2025 stats per CDS, I don’t see class of 2026 data).
I expect your GC believes that score does not strengthen your application (and could weaken it) given your strong grades and ECs, so that may be what they are thinking.
Did you do an NU admissions session (I hope so!), and if so what was their guidance there? We do know as I mentioned above that NU likes to receive test scores. You can also reach out to your NU AO and ask if you should submit or not.
Hopefully you have strong math grades and an AP calc score of 5 to report.
Congratulations! It is a wonderful school all-around, and I am sure you will have a great time there. Enjoy the beautiful campus, classes, friendship, and Big 10 sports!
