Chance me for Notre Dame and Georgetown??

Hey guys

I'll chance back!

I am currently a junior in high school. I was adopted from China, so I do not necessarily have the stellar test scores of other Asians. What are my chances of getting into: Georgetown and Notre Dame?

I transferred to a much more challenging high school in the middle of sophomore year, which hindered my availability of AP courses junior year. The only APs I could have taken junior year were AP Lit and AP Euro. I took AP Euro first semester sophomore year, but had to drop it when I transferred. I am currently in AP Euro now again for that reason. I am worried because that is my only AP, however all my other classes are honors.

My current course load is
H Math Analysis- A (pre-calc/ pre-sat)
AP Euro- A
Brit Lit & Adv. Composition- A
H Physics- B+
Psychology- A (elective, first semester)
Evolutionary theory- A (elective, second semester)
Concert Band- A (elective, both semesters)
H Spanish III- A
Death and Dying- A (mandatory religion, first semester)
Moral Theology- A (mandatory religion, second semester)

This gives me a 4.2 GPA weighted. My overall CUM for sophomore and junior year is a 4.0. My school does not rank.

SATs:
Writing- 680
Math- 670
CR- 700

I'm taking them again to improve these! I am also going to take the Bio Subject test (I want to major in biology, and ultimately be a plastic surgeon), Physics, and Spanish.

ECs:
Viola (6 years, Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra and All State Orchestra)
Track (Grades 10, 11)
Cheerleading Varsity (11)
Volunteer at St. Francis Hospital (90 hours)
Vacation Bible School Volunteer (60 hours, over 3 summers)
Summer job at a sushi restaurant
Asian Club
Mock Trial (11)

I'm worried about my ECs because I have been committed to viola and spots and wondering if I need to be doing research or something more impressive. There are not that many opportunities locally.

Senior Year Course load:
I will take:
AP Calc
AP Bio
H Spanish IV
Economics or Marine Bio (elective)
Possibly AP Lit and AP World History... most likely 1 or the other to avoid overload.

I'm hoping being Asian AND Catholic will help me for Notre Dame?

Oh, adopted from China! One of my close friends was too, hahaha.

Your ECs are pretty good. Volunteer work is good as well. SAT is low; I’d try to bring it up a bit, hopefully around the 2200 range at the least. If not, you can try the ACT and maybe boost it there, all your choice though. Subject tests will help too.

It’s not possible to have a 4.0 GPA with a B. If you could put your unweighted and weighted GPAs up (separately), that’d help. Try to bring that B+ up to an A in physics next semester (provided the grade was from last semester)/this semester. You could mention your transfer (and hence your grades) in an essay topic to help clear things with admission.

In regards to your adoption, was it foster or private? Private adoptions don’t usually get much sympathy, but if it was a foster, you might have something.

Being Catholic helps for Notre Dame, but I’m skeptical whether being Asian helps like it used to for college admissions. If you want to raise your chances for Notre Dame, you could try getting involved with your church’s youth group (if you have one), in addition to your church volunteer hours.

Georgetown: High Reach
Notre Dame: Mid Reach

Do you have any safeties?

Also, mind chancing me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1472407-yale-notre-dame-cornell-georgia-tech-uf.html</a></p>

My adoption is private. 7 out of 10 of my cousins are also adopted. I was thinking that could be a possible essay? Would not taking AP lit senior year be a bad idea? It would be my only regular course and my school is highly rigorous so I don’t want to overload, but I also want to look like I’m taking the highest courses possible

If it’s private, it might not amount to much, but with 7 of your cousins adopted, you might have a potential essay topic. Although I highly doubt this is true, if you and your cousins are all from the same biological family, that’s definitely an essay topic you could use.

As for AP Lit…
I haven’t taken it yet, but I can tell you what I’ve heard from some of my friends.

Current senior taking it who got a 36 on the ACT, Full ride to LSU (not that prestigious, but she has no cash, so it’s a godsend for her), 3 time member (as in, she started 10th grade) in the Florida State Academic Team and currently ranked no.3 out of ~5k students at LSU (not that prestigious, but that’s one impressive rank!) told me that AP Lit “sucks 11 dicks each day”. Most of the seniors at my school skip out of it by taking a similar literature class at a college nearby us. It’s not favored, but even so, I still recommend taking it.

It’s a hard class, guaranteed, but I’ve heard being able to do successfully in that class is highly dependent on your ability to budget your time successfully. There is no way you can even think about procrastinating in that class. The book material can also be hard, so your ability to read well might also be a factor in that class. Some of the books I’ve seen appear on the exam aren’t that hard; The Adventures of Huck Finn, Catch-22(fav book!), 1984, Candide and The Grapes of Wrath aren’t particularly hard to analyze. However, the class also has hard books; Othello, Hamlet, The Scarlet Letter, etc are all hard (to me, at least) in the sense that the plot is easy(ish) to follow, but understanding what’s actually going on is a challenge.

If you haven’t taken AP Lang yet, I’d strongly recommend taking it. Even if you have taken AP Lang, I’d still recommend taking it. It’s great prep for college reading (if you care about that) and it looks a lot better on the resume, especially in senior year.

Of course, that’s just my 2 cents. I’m still waiting on taking it next year. I’m just telling you what I’ve heard from people I know who’ve taken it and from books that I’ve read that are (supposedly) commonplace with the class.

Would you mind giving me a chance back as well? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1472407-yale-notre-dame-cornell-georgia-tech-uf.html</a></p>
