Chance me for Oberlin/Pomona? Will chance back.

Background: Female from inner-city school district(a school district with a 16 average composite ACT score). Biracial Latino/white. Low/no income, on government assistance, I’m Pell eligible. Both parents have less than a high school education. I attend a public magnet school, regarded as the “most rigorous” high school in the district.

Oh and I know this is kind of long but thank you so much for reading. Reposting to see if anyone else has opinions.

Test Scores:
ACT: 27(28 Superscore)Will retake with writing.

Rank:
3/14

GPA:
3.46/4
4.29/5

Courseload: Freshman and Sophomore year I took all honors classes in the traditional high school subjects. Because our school is “accelerated” with the option of graduating in three years, for most subjects we do “one full year” of instruction in half the time. I ended up having about a 3.2/3.3 GPA. Then in Junior year I opted to take the “most rigorous track” and took college classes at a local State University, full time. Worked my tail off and got all A’s(10 classes taken so far). Will continue full time(5 classer per semester) at local State U during Senior year.

Activities(in ordere of importance)
Environmental Club. Fresh-Senior year. Year round. 3 hours a week. I have highest leadership position in club, and I manage both the recycling program and the community garden program.
Environmental Remediation Intern. Summer 2012. 30hr/8wk.
Urban Community Gardening Intern. Summer 2013. 30hr/8wk.
Social Studies Graduation Test Tutor, independent. J&S year. 3hr/16wk.
Chinese Club at Local State U. J&S year.Member. 3hr/30wk.
Office Assistant. Volunteer. Soph&J&S year. 3hr/12wk.
Animal Shelter Volunteer. Senior year. 3 hours week/25 week.
Leadership Academy at Local CC. Sophomore year. 5hr/15wk.

Awards:
Top 50 Scholar. In my district, I’m one of the top 50 graduating students(based on GPA and ACT) out of about 3000 students.

Essays: Assume they’re average, haven’t really started yet.

Schools I’m applying to(yeah I know they’re a lot but my enrollment is contingent on financial aid): How much of a shot do you think I have, if any?
Bowdoin, Brandeis, DePaul, Grinnell, Macalester, Middlebury, Mills College(CA), Oberlin, Pomona, Rice, Simmons(MA), Smith, Ohio State(my state flagship, a saftey school), University of Denver, Washington U in St. Louis, and Wheaton(MA).
Also, should I be applying to more safety schools?

Thanks in advance, I know it’s long but thanks! (will chance back).

I can’t say I know much about Oberlin or Pomona but I think you have pretty good ECs! The internships look good with the Environmental club because it shows interest that you are in multiple things of the same kind of area.
What specific classes did you take as a junior and what classes will you take as a senior? You said college classes but how many? APs? Just curious myself:)

My school doesn’t offer AP classes(as there wouldn’t be enough kids qualified to take them). I’ve successfully completed 10 college classes(in subjects like Environmental Science, English, Math, and Psychology, most are lower division coursework. I don’t wanna say the exact class names because they could hint to my identity/college).

I’ll take 5 college classes this semester, and four(with two Junior level courses) in the Spring semester.

Pomona is a reach but i think you have a shot at oberlin. You have great Ecs, so just try to explain the low gpa in some additional info. If you can get your ACT up it will help a lot too…

chance back?

Oberlin: High match
Pomona: Low reach/Reach

The things that kept standing out to me were UW GPA and ACT Scores. I think if you got your ACT to the 31-33 range it would help a lot.

Unfortunately for many of the colleges I don’t know, and I don’t want to give you the wrong idea.
OSU- absolutely. No question.
Brandeis, Oberlin, DePaul- ballparks. High ballparks. While your ECs are good, try and get your scores up.
WashU and Rice are more of reaches in my opinion.

Based on mostly GPA and test scores…
Bowdoin: high reach
Brandeis: low reach
DePaul: mid match
Grinnell: high match
Macalester: low reach
Middlebury: high reach
Mills College: mid match
Oberlin: mid reach
Pomona: high reach
Rice: high reach
Simmons: low match
Smith: mid reach
Ohio State: mid match (I wouldn’t classify this as a safety for you, based on your stats.)
University of Denver: low match
Washington U in St. Louis: high reach
Wheaton: high match

GOOD LUCK! :)

Chance back?
