Hello, Ohio State is pretty much my top choice so I am a little worried about getting in. I applied in late September i think but kind of forgot. I will chance back.
Stats:
Out of state
Weighted gpa: 4.60(school doesn’t provide Uw gpa, also, average gpa accepted from my school is 4.3 but it’s getting more competitive).
Act: 31
Visited twice and have been in constant contact with admissions and have shown interest.
Major: international studies while being pre med.
Essay: Pretty good. I had it proof read multiple times but it isn’t super deep or anything.
Rank: 2nd decile but attend a competitive private high school
ECs
National Honor society
Job since I was fourteen. Entry level manager
Other volunteering stuff blah and high honors ever semester at my school
Also, I applied for scholars so if you can chance me for that it is greatly appreciated.
ACT score of 31 and being in top 25% of the class should result in acceptance, at least based on results last year. T
@osuprof thank you! Do you have any gauge on scholars admissions?
@osuprof If you are in “constant contact with admissions” as the OP said, do they keep track of this? Will this really have any weight on your admissions chances?
@AFutureStudent I don’t think that has any bearing but I added it just because. I went to the meeting the last two years they came to my high school and met with them at a college fair. That is more what I meant.
Oh, I see. Do you happen to know if choice of major affects admissions chances?
@AFutureStudent I know that the college of engineering is much more difficult than other colleges. As far as majors within a college, I can’t say. I wouldn’t think getting into Spanish is more difficult than English or vice versa, but maybe Biochemistry or biology is harder than English. I do not know but maybe.
Thanks and good luck. Hopefully we both get in. :>
@AFutureStudent good luck to you roo! When did you apply?
Your choice of major isn’t a factor, given that admissions knows that 65% of students change their major within the first year…especially those with intentions of entering the engineering program. Being pre-med with an international studies major is an interesting combination. I’d suggest a minor in biology or another science.
Your ACT score and grades are very good, so that gives you a high chance. NHS doesn’t mean much, to be honest, since it seems like everyone is a member these days. If you work a lot of hours every week throughout the year, then that will help explain your lack of other extracurriculars.
I encourage you to get a teacher or counselor to read over your essay and make sure it really shines in terms of content. You’ll probably get into Scholars as long as your essay sounds genuine and connects to your interests.
@blackcanyon okay thank you. I have many other EC’s but I didn’t think it mattered enough to type them here. I really like neuroscience and want to minor in that or potentially double major. Also, i really screwed up with my scholars essay(writing about one major then switching to another after I submitted the essay).

@BreBre235 I don’t know much about the SAT but yours definitely seems good. Impressive gpa, ECs, and course load. As long as you’re in the top 25% you have a really good shot.
@CavalierZachBuckeye I actually got in Friday but thanks haha.
@soyunchico What can I say… I’m psychic lol… or lucky. But I’ll go with the first one. Anyways congrats man!
