Other Notable Things:
My poems have been published in a number of magazines, including - but not limited to: Rattle, New England Review and the Baltimore Review.
In eighth grade, I, along with my group - though only one of them actively contributed - won in our “section” of the exit project we had to complete. It was solving real world problems - we did ours on water pollution and water access, and how to a) clean the water, and b) expand access to water, specifically in Ghana. It wasn’t just a fancy title though, as the winners were contacted and talked to world leaders in those areas - one group talked with a UN official. We talked to a woman named Sarah who was at the forefront of delivering water to 3rd world countries.
On all my PSATs (8/9, 10 and 11), I was in the 99+ percentile for reading and writing.
I also struggled with my weight throughout middle school and freshman and sophomore years of high school, but I lost 90 pounds sophomore year - while still keeping my grades up. (Yeah, not that academic, but I’m really proud of myself.)
Other:
My GPA is as low as it is due to the fact that my uncle died halfway through freshman year, and because he lived in London, I ended up spending at least three weeks out of school. It was also devastasting to lose someone like that - my grades dropped hard.
In addition, I moved right before junior year and had to take a couple months to adjust to the entirely different system.
I also have been diagnosed with severe depression, something else that impacted my grades as I often couldn’t work up the motivation to get anything done as it all seemed so pointless.
Lastly, I have ADHD, and was denied a 504 plan my freshman and sophomore years on the basis that my grades were too good - I was doing a perfectly fine job keeping up with the non-ADHD kids without one, apparently. (I was not happy, because even if my grades weren’t bad, I still wasn’t playing on the same level field as most other kids).
