Essay on Hurricane Charley and Aftermath and how I have changed after it.

Please chance me for RD to Columbia College

good chance, i think if you show why you really fit at columbia and why it's the perfect school for you, they'll take you, otherwise, as always, it's difficult.

does columbia require SAT IIs? because mine are not that good and I know some schools like UPenn, and Duke don't require them if you choose to submit the ACT with writing.

They are not a huge part of the app, but they are an IMPORTANT part of the app, because these standardized tests put the rigor of your high school curriculum to the test.

Ideally, they should be 700+, but if yours are, say 650+, then they should be fine.

See, your 3.92 and 5.2 are problematic to me...
I earned 3.2s (Cs) in Physics and Precalc, but earned 800s on the Physics and Math II Subject Tests.

If you can only manage a few 600s, that sort of shoots down your stellar academic record.

You're certainly competitive, if that's what you want to know...

By the way, are Indians considered Asian Americans by college admissions officers? I.E., I suppose they don't benefit from the same favoritisms awarded to Hs, Bs, and NAs?

I'll tell you why my SATII scores are so low....I live in a small town in southern florida and I go to a large public school, and as most people know, the education/teachers in florida are not very good. If my teachers could teach us in a way to do well on these tests, obviously I would have the 700+ scores. They are above 650 though...so i'm hoping for the best.

And yes, Indian people are considered asian american and they don't get the ridiculous benefits that hispanics, african americans, and native americans do.

Well, although I attend a tiny school in the heart of New York City, even I've never been taught specific STRATEGIES as to how to do well on standardized tests.

The best course of action would be to purchase SAT II books, sit yourself down, and actually commit a few hours of time into taking practice tests. Ultimately, it's pacing and learning how to guess smartly that'll help you win.

These tests better serve as indicators of rapid thinking than as assessments of knowledge.

One of my good friends is Indian, and he thinks he can make it into good schools as an Indian student with a 3.4 GPA and 600s in his Subject Tests.

That's like me saying I can get into Columbia as an Asian with a 3.7 and 700s in all my tests...

Well, you never know. Good luck on the Subject Tests. January's the last testing date, if you're a senior.
