I'm applying to Rice ED at the moment. Also, applying to Cornell, Stanford, UPenn, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Brown, etc.

I'm applying to some as a bioengineering/biomedical major. For others, I'm applying as an economics major. Those two are my main majors that I'm debating on.

Please let me know what you think.

bump!

Rice doesn’t superscore the SAT. You didn’t post your GPA, but being in the top 2% of your class is great. Did you win any awards other than in robotics? Its confusing that you have spent a lot of time on medical pursuits, although you are applying to economics at some schools, so be sure to explain the transition in interests in your essays. You are competitive for Rice. Good luck!

@ScienceGirlMom Thank you so much for your answer. When I went for a campus visit, the admissions faculty said they superscore the SAT. I got some other awards for local school stuff, but they are not that significant. I’m currently debating on whether I want to go on the medical track or economics. Also, for getting into medical school, it doesn’t matter what you major in to get admitted.

Rice requires that you submit all test scores, but they don’t combine the scores from multiple sittings. They may look for a trend in the scores. If you are counting on a superscore, you should double check with the admissions office.

You can major in anything and then apply to med school as long as you have met all of the pre-med requirements. But I still wonder why you had so much interest in medical work, and now you want to major in something else. How will an economics major blend with your long-term plans to become a doctor? It seems like an admissions officer would have these questions.

@ScieceGirlMom I understand what you mean. Thank you for the link. I recently took a class in economics and realized that I enjoyed it. I know it looks weird to apply for a major unrelated to my activities. I just wanted to give it a go. :)
