Chance me for RIT and SUNY Stony Brook (plus some suggestions?)

Hey all,

I’m a rising senior who has recently decided to go to college for either computer science or biomedical engineering. While i’m not the best at math, technology and computers have always fascinated me, along with biology. I’m just curious as to what my chances are with these competitive majors, or any better fitting suggestions. Thanks!

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Major: Computer Science/Biomedical Engineering

GPA: 89.9 (my school hasn’t shown me GPA out of 4.0, around 3.4/3.5?)
SAT: 1260
ACT: Haven’t taken

Small public school in NY
Middle Class
Top 25% of class (I think, not sure)
My school doesn’t offer AP, but i’m taking college courses next year, along with the ones iIve taken this year (should be around 21-23 college credits by the time I graduate). These include math, science, humanities, and English courses.

I don’t have many extracurriculars. Tennis, Drama Club, an environmental competition, and a couple others here or there.

RIT awarded me a $32k scholarship if I get admitted. If they awarded me this scholarship, does this mean I have higher chances of getting in? Would it be more financially responsible to go to a SUNY school instead? Stony Brook seems to have a strong CS program going on…

Thanks, guys!!

  1. You would have to understand the net costs for RIT and SUNY for us to be able to compare. Both are excellent schools.
  2. What is your math SAT score? You may need to get that up
  3. What math and science classes are you taking?
  4. When you take college courses, make sure you understand that your college grades will be part of your college GPA forever. So if you wanted to go to grad school or medical school or whatever, those course grades will be in your GPA even if you way “but I was only a junior/senior in HS”. It won’t matter.
