Hey guys, I'm a rising senior from a public school in NJ and I was hoping you'd be able to gauge my chances at some of the schools I'll be applying to. Here are my stats:

State: NJ
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White

GPA: 3.97/4 UW, 4.20/4.5 W
Rank: School does not rank
SAT I (superscore): 2250 (720 CR, 750 M, 780 W)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 740 Spanish
AP: Spanish Language (4), Calc BC, Chem, Psych all TBD

ECs:
Softball-JV captain as a junior (not sure if I'll be playing this year, so 9-11)
Tutor for elementary school students (9-12)
School paper-serving as sports page editor as senior (10-12)
Summer overnight camp counselor (12)
Jewish leadership group member (9-12)
Peer mentor for 7-9th graders (11-12)
NHS (11-12)

*I know it's not too many, but I feel like I've demonstrated commitment in a lot of them

Essays: My common app essay is really strong
Recommendations: One is sure to be really strong (it's from my English teacher/newspaper adviser), math teacher one will be good, counselor is probably decent

Schools:
Duke (possibly ED)
Vanderbilt (possibly ED)
Tulane (EA)
Emory
William & Mary
Tufts
Penn State
UMD-College Park
Lehigh
UMichigan-Ann Arbor (EA)

Duke: mid reach
Vanderbilt: high match / low reach
Tulane: high match
Emory: low reach
William & Mary: mid match
Tufts: high match / low reach
Penn State: low match / safety
UMD-College Park: low match / safety
Lehigh: mid match
UMichigan-Ann Arbor (EA): high match / low reach

I think the acceptance rates for those two schools ED are nearly identical. So lucky for you, pick the school you like better! You have a decent chance at both of those schools. Likely into UMich/Emory/Tulane/William and Mary. Rest are easy ins.

Do whatever you can to keep playing softball if that’s a fall sport so you can show dedication as a varsity player! That matters, especially if you think you’re ECs are few in quantity.

Smarty hit the nail on the head, really. You’re very qualified, and the ED stats for those two schools are similar so just pick whichever one feels right.

Duke RD: reach
Duke ED: very low reach
Vandy RD: low reach
Vandy ED: high match
Tulane EA: low match
W&M: match
Tufts: low reach
Penn State: safety
UMD: safety
Mich: match
Miami: safety

I would say your weakness is your ECs. But it is good you have commitment to them all. For Duke vs Vandy, just do ED to which ever one you like more. If you can’t decide I would go for the one that is better in your intended major. If you are undecided, then I would try to visit them both, or watch video tours, or do anyhting you can to give yourself some more insight to make a decision. Good luck!

Duke RD: reach
Duke ED: low reach
Vandy RD: reach
Vandy ED: low reach
Tulane EA: low match
W&M: match/ high match
Tufts: low reach
Penn State: safety
UMD: safety
Mich: match/ high match
Miami: safety

Duke: Low-mid reach
Vandy: High match-low reach
Tulane: High match
Tufts: High match
UMD: Safety
Michigan: Match
Miami: Safety
Penn state: Safety

I would recommend applying ED to Vanderbilt.

If you’re applying ED to a school, your best chance at an elite school is Vandy by far- I’d go so far as to say it’s a safety Early. However, by your screenname, it looks like you love Duke, so go for that Early if you like it more. I think you can get in there too.

Duke: mid reach
Vanderbilt: high match
Tulane:match
Emory: low reach
William & Mary: match
Tufts: high match
Penn State: safety
UMD-College Park: safety
Lehigh: mid match
UMichigan-Ann Arbor (EA): high match
