Chance me for Stanford, Upenn, CMU, USC, UT Austin, UIUC, UC's, SCU, Calpoly,

Hey Guys chance for the above schools and I promise to chance back :)

Taking Math 2 and Physics this weekend

EC's-Deputy Head Boy
Played 2 Instruments(Violin & Drums) for around 6 years with certificates or recognition
Jointly STARTED A COMPANY WITH MIT GRAD ( my biggest selling point)
Did 3 engineering internships
Several MUN's( including prizes at almost all of them)
Over 400 hours of community service in orphanages
Played golf at the club level ( nothing too serious)

Recommendations- Will be good
Essays- Excellent- Talk about my experience with starting the company and patenting the idea
Intended Major-Electrical Engineering

Most of the schools im applying to superscore except for UIUC and the UC's :/

I also have a ton of other EC’s I just mentioned the main ones and I am a US citizen if that helps, PLEASE CHANCE ME :)

81% ~ 3.8? I don’t think so; probably closer to a 3.0; even a 91% is probably closer to a 3.6.

With the exception of the lower level UCs I think you need to consider all those schools as big reaches.

Umm Vinech, Im studying in India, and anyhting above in 80 in my school is an A, and above a 90 is considered expceptional, its not like the american grading system, The difficulty of my course are very high, therefore the gpa will be high

It is a 3.24 CGPA… I think so… And your citizenship will do wonders. You from Delhi?

Okay can we just ignore I said 81% and can everyone please CHANCE ME with a 3.8 in 11th grade, thank you :)

Stanford: High Reach (I’m calling it nearly impossible)
UPenn: High Reach (If Wharton, then nearly impossible)
CMU: Low Reach
USC: Low Reach
UT-Austin: High Match
UIUC: High Match
UC-Berkeley: Low Reach/Reach
UCLA: Low Reach/Reach
Other UC’s: Match/High Match
SCU: Match
Cal Poly: Low Reach/Reach

Sadly your GPA and SAT scores are pretty low for some of these top tier schools. Consider the fact that you have numerous applicants from India to these fantastic schools, schools accept very few international applicants in general, and to be perfectly honest your 3.8 and 2100 pale in comparison even to U.S. applicants meaning that it’ll be EVEN harder for you among the competitive Indian applicants.

Pretty much agree with above except for UCLA that should be a high match.

Thanks guys  just one question, I realise that stanford and Upenn are dreams so we can leave that aside but for cmu/berks/la if my essays was excellent and my EC’s are better than most indian applicants will that help cover up for my avg stats? also, scu and cal poly median sat scores are very low so I thought those would be safeties? and Im hoping on usc considering that it usually accepts internationals around 2040-2060

Cal Poly engineering admission stats:

[Student Profile - Admissions - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo](<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions)

Avg GPA: 4.08
Avg SAT: 1388 (out of 1600 scale)
Avg ACT: 31

You are solidly below average in your GPA, above average for your SAT. The coming year admission for Cal Poly will be extra competitive because they over-admitted too many freshmen this year. Expect the averages to go up. Also, EE is one of the most competitive engineering in Cal Poly.

So Cal Poly is NOT a safety for you. Many people with higher stats than you got denied this past year.

So if Cal Poly is used as a pivot point, then Stanford, UPenn will be impossibly high reach.

Stanford: Nosebleed high reach
Cal: High Reach
UCLA: High Reach
USC: High Reach/reach
CMU: Reach
UIUC: Low reach
UT Austin: Low Reach/High Match
SCU: Match
Cal Poly: Low reach/Reach

SAT scores can’t be the sole determiner of whether or not a school is a safety or not for you. You’re automatically disadvantaged as an international applicant. I’d honestly discourage you from applying to a couple of the schools like Stanford, Berkeley and Penn; it’s not worth the money or time with your odds. I’d say if you really really spent time on your essays you could get into CMU slimly with of luck (note: I have a friend who had a 3.8, 2200 SAT who got waitlisted by CMU). I’d really focus on UIUC, CMU and UT-Austin if I were you.

lol I dont believe uiuc is a reach and my school doesnt offer AP’s so I cant go above a 4 even if I wanted too. But yeah I realise stanford and Upenn are just dreams but why not :stuck_out_tongue: and Ill just apply to the school of L&S and try my luck its only another tick of the box so thats fine. But I really want to go to usc, ucla or cmu so ill try hard for those. Thanks again :)

(I don’t know how chances are different for international applicants so I’ll just pretend you’re not one haha)
I agree with most of what’s been said before me. UIUC is probably not a reach for you, but as with all of the other schools you’re considering, an intended major of EE will probably make the chances slimmer for you.
GPA and SAT are definitely on the low side when placed into a competitive context. Good luck with SAT subject tests this weekend though
ECs are pretty enticing, but keep in mind that you’re not the only one who’s started a business or done internships or volunteered for hundreds of hours. Just hope that your essays convince them that they really want you.
I know that Berkeley and UCLA are difficult for even CA students in the top 9% to get into, so just hope for the best.

Stanford/Penn are probably out of your reach unfortunately…

I don’t want to come across as overly negative or harsh to the OP, but the fact remains that UIUC has one of the competitive EE program in the US.

The admission requirements for engineering are:

ACT SAT Class Rank

ENG 31 - 34 1370 - 1490 92% - 99%

These are pretty high stats for admissions.

You have nice ECs. What’s your company’s name and what does it do?

And, apply if you must to the top schools like Stanford: You don’t wanna repent later that you didn’t even try.

Any research in Math/Phy/CompSci/…?

The company is called MahaValue (Maha-Big in Hindi(indian language)). We deal with a discount based algorithim integrated into NFC chips that are distributed to out potential clientele(which is everyone lol). Then we set up the discounts for customers to use to entice them and the stores motivation is the fact that were giving them customers( this is where we get our revenue). I dealt with bagging the clients like entire malls, stores etc…My partner set up the technical side and guided me. He’s going to give me a great LOR and hes a grad from MIT. The only reason Im applying to stanford and Upenn is 1) Because I have this company to pivot my application around 2) Im from cali and stanford is a dream so why not 3) i heard 2100 is just cut off so I have a smalll chance 4) why not? But again Im aiming at USC, UCLA and CMU (fingers crossed)

hey guys can I get a few more suggestions especially about CMU, USC and UCLA, Thanks :)

CMU, UCLA- High match/Low reach
Ivy’s are reaches.
All the others are mid matches.
But good luck for Stanford and UPenn!

I must agree with past posts, for an international applicant with your scores/GPA, Stanford and UPenn will be difficult.
