Thanks! I want to major in marketing at Stern or media culture & communications at Steinhardt. Which one do you think I have a better shot at ? (actually I know that's steinhardt but how weak of a chance do you think I have at Stern lol)

For Stern, your chances I have to say aren’t strong…For Steinhardt they obviously improve dramatically…If youre really set on Stern though, apply RD that way you have time to improve your GPA, class rank, and possibly a chance to re-take the ACT and score near perfectly to solidify your chances.

Thank you for your honesty! I really appreciate it. After reading this, I’ve decided to re-take the ACT but really I think the best I could get is a 32. And that’s if I really, REALLY brush up on the science portion.

Have you ever heard of a transfer into Stern? it seems very difficult and competitive.

It’s not that I have a huge passion for business, but I feel that because NYU is so expensive it’d be better to major in something more business-oriented than communications and they are closely related. And maybe with a business degree it’d be easier to pay off loans and whatnot.

Well I would say your stats do not look too bad, I mean I would not be shocked if someone with similar stats got it, but my main problem with your chances at stern would be that you have shown no “passion” for business which most top ten b schools like seeing. I mean you should have some business classes and some soild bizz related ecs to have a serious shot.

You definitely have a point. I guess I want it because it’s a more practical major and my parents want it. I did want to write an essay about how my parents opened their own business and how I’ve learned and seen that there’s a lot more to business than I thought and how I’d like to learn more. Very weak, I know. You’re definitely making me lean towards a comm major at Steinhardt and I have a lot more focus on what I want now thanks :D
