chance me for summer session? =/

hahaha my GPA is a 3.9(UW)- i think this might hurt me and my W is a 4.7. My SATs are kinda low its somewhere along the lines of a 2280/2400. As far as volunteer goes, i spent 2 years of my life in mexico building homes and school buildings for children and their families. I also am the co-owner of a soup kitchen in 5 different cities in PA. In my free time I am a national chess player who travels to places all over the country with my NCSAAC All-National I team, and we compete. I am the President of Student Government and FBLA, Debate Team, Water Polo Team, Chess team, class president. I am ranked 2/450 students....i am in state, please chance me i dont know if i can even get into summer session! hahahahahahahahaha

^lmao. Sadly, there are some people on here like that.
Hell, I barely had EC's and i'm not even stressed about it. I would think that PSU takes like what 2-3 GLANCES at it, its not like they're impressed. Come to PSU with amazing sports statistics, EC's will be super important then.

haha yes there are

hahahahahah you two are exactly right.
those people are ridiculous. anndd i can't lie, i think a part of them is just trying to show off.
you two are right, we need to get in just so we can say that there is such a thing as an average student

If an applicant is accepted for the "SUMMER SESSION",...does that mean that he/she starts taking classes in the summer but then once the fall comes, is treated just like all the fall admits ? If so, being a summer admit does not seem bad. Do they lower the standards a bit for summer admits in return for them putting in time during the summer ? Are there other factors involved ?

yeah summer means you start in the summer and when fall comes you are living on campus just like everyone else and attending classes with everyone. the summer session from what I hear has lower standards only because kids who cant get into fall, choose summer to start and it shows the university that they are wiling to start early. I have a friend who said she knows people who got in with below a 1000 on the SAT and below a 3.5 GPA

My D has around a 3.6 and 1230 / 1600 on SAT. I guess she might be on the border line for fall admits. Does Penn. State care about the 3rd part of the SAT or SAT IIs ?

They've taken writing into consideration but I do not know if they plan to really count it as much as the verbal and the math

Thanks. I wonder if they really adhere to their supposed formula of counting GPA for 2/3 of consideration and SAT scores for 1/3. Then again, with the large number of applicants, I guess each large state univ. has their own "formula" it uses.

MBJ, yes, they definitely adhere to the 2/3 - 1/3 . they get a better representation of how a student is academically by considering GPA heavier than a 4 hour standardized test. also- if you go to the guidance counselor chart on the undergrad admissions page you will see they use 2400 for the SAT.

Thanks. I will check it out.

We were told at the info session that this is the first year where they are officially looking at the writing section. They take the highest score from 1 sitting (not the highest for each part from different sittings). I don't believe they look at SAT 2s since they don't require them, although they are included on the score report from collegeboard.

Interesting that PSU does not superscore like so many other schools. Maybe they find it too much work...lol ??

handemom, they don't take the highest score from each one?

infortunately no. they have so many apps they just cant take that kind of time. fyi last year there were 90,000 applicants.

so they take the highest score from one sitting then?
it must be different this year because last years applicants said they took your highest in each category. (math, verbal, writing) i don't see how they couldn't do that..it wouldn't exactly be accurate then.
well i think my transcript has the highest score from each one on there added up.
i know its not official from the transcript but at least its all added up for them

They made the point of saying the highest sitting, not the highest individual scores. I think it may even be in some of the printed material they they give out at the info session.

hm..i'll have to check that out because i did the spend a summer day there this summer and that wasn't the information given. who knows i'll have to look into it. thanks handemom!

If you look on the bubble chart, it says they take the highest SAT score from a single sitting.

So I won't probably hear of my acceptance until January or so. (since i am taking the SAT once more this Dec.)

Hope i get over a 1700 to atleast become a yellow dot.
