I applied to UP on the last week of October and checked off summer session.

Asian male
3.38 Cumulative GPA

here goes my Horrible SAT scores.
M-510
CR-490
W-490

(a bit out of my stereotype..)
I plan to take the SAT's this december but i'm feeling a little worried that it may be a bit too late.
(I think there was an option on the app that asked if you plan on taking it again, but i dont remember for sure.)

yeah i'd try summer if i were you. i applied specifically for summer because i have a 3.5 and a 1760 on my SAT's so i definitely don't think i'd make the cut for fall.
check the website for the 50% ranges of accepted students.

yeah, just try for summer i'd say. and hey if you're friend got in with that, that's a relief haha i hope i get in the summer session then!
i don't think anyone on here has done the summer session as far as i can see. it stinks because we can't get a real feel for what they accept. honestly, it doesn't seem like anyone knows the requirements. it's kind of random

^Yeah i wonder about that too. Is there ANYONE that got into summer session that could inform us? Every1 on this board seems to get into Fall with no problem.
Aren't there any PSU underdogs on here?

Go the the PSU Website to Undergraduate Admission Requirements and see where it states:
"You may want to consult our chart of the mid-50% range of the students we accepted last year to get an estimate of your eligibility if you're a first-year student. "

^Already looked, but it serves no purpose for me. I'm just asking for the people who were accepted into the summer session. That chart is just an average (The fall students easily raise the numbers when averaged with the ss students, btw).
It doesn't exactly tell you about the people who were admitted to the summer session that had like 3.0's to 3.5.

yeah i think the requirements are a litttttle bit more relaxed for the summer session. a friend of mine who goes there said he thought it was more for students who had a high enough SAT and a lower GPA or a higher GPA and a lower SAT. but he doesn't know for sure. that just made the most sense to him. but then there are people who you would think are great candidates for branch campuses that get in summer. i honestly have no idea how they do it and there's no info on the website about it

yeah i actually got information on this site earlier in the year from a student at psu who said that he knows of people who had lower grades than mine (1510/2400 and a 3.72 GPA with a load of EC's, volunteer hours, and work hours) and still got in.

Even though it is summer session you are at "University Park", hence the numbers on the chart (which probably includes Fall and Summer). The UP GPA and SAT credentials are higher for summer than for branches. First admissions evaluates you for fall, then summer (if it's marked), then branch campus, if you choose one. Their credentials this year seem to be so high for fall, from what I have been reading here. Remember 2/3 of their decison is based on GPA, 1/3 SAT. They put more emphasis on what kind of student you are over the course of 4 years than by taking a standardized test.

this is true. but that doesnt explain how people who have grades for branch campuses get in summer. maybe the standards are set a bit lower simply because most people don't want to do the summer session. it kind of sucks to give up two months of your senior summer. but i would think, if your heart is really set on it and you truly want to be at penn state, you would do summer.
i think all of us here who are trying for summer have a decent shot at it.

also, blckthought, it says that a 3.40 is usually accepted at branch campuses on the website in the middle 50% ranges. thats not set in stone of course. i have a 3.52 and it says 3.57 was the middle range last year so i'm just on the edge.
however, apparently people who have worse grades than both of us have gotten in. so there's no real reason for any of us to think we have absolutely, positively no shot what so ever

^ Exactly what I was thinking. lol
There are alot of students who get into University Park with poor grades, but I cant find them anywhere. This is the only forum i found that even talks about it. But it seems like all the students at CC.com are overachievers.
I mean whats a philly kid gotta do to get in!?

hahah i know!! everyone here has like stellar grades. it really seems like we're underachievers on here.
i'd really like to hear from someone who did summer session but everyone here applied for fall. and btw its so unfair. there are people on here who applied nov 4 and heard back nov 12. i applied in august and had my transcript in by october and still haven't heard!

and philly? haha i'm from pittsburgh. we don't need to get into the football debate though haha

Lol lets not talk about my home team!,
who are the majority that get accepted anyway. I can almost never imagine it. The last time i was at PSU for a party, none of those guys look like they could even break a 3.0 in HS. Somethings gotta be up.

haha for sure ^^^, but i just wish we could have someone on here who was like us and went to summer session and told us what he thought and how we compare to kids he went with. Also some of the kids on here are like im soo nervous and stuff and their GPA is like 3.9 with 2000/2400 SATs ha i think its just a way for them to show off

yeah i cant even stand it when i read posts where people have a 4.0 with a 2200 on their SAT's. like, really? seriously, why are you on here asking that?
all i know is, there are definitely kids who had worse grades than the three of us and got in. i know two people who did summer session. the one said his grades were pretty bad. he refused to tell me them.
but the other was a girl and she had a 1600 on her SAT's and had somewhere within a 3.7 or 3.8
so collegekid5, it looks good for you. haha

well that sounds good but my SATs are still 90 pts lower ha, other than that i hope all 3 of us get in so we can show the top students you dont have to waste you high school career studying to get into psu

@ mkc
Nothing ****es me off more than when a guy with 4.0 GPA and almost perfect SAT scores stress about getting into PSU. Come on, PSU? Go to Upenn with those grades.

@collegekid
I hope all three of us get in, just to laugh at some of these guys who get nervous about "Will i get in with a 4.0? Im dying from anxiety, CHANCE ME! PERFECT SAT's PERFECT 4.0 I WAS THE PRESIDENT OF EVERYTHING. I FED THE HOMELESS!"
