Chance me for the schools I'm applying to?

Hi, I'm Dominic and I'm new here so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong with this. Well, here's my basic academic profile. I'm looking to major in either Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. Oh, and I'm a white male and a Michigan resident.

Academics:
I am ranked 4 out of 701 in my class, with a GPA of 4.092 weighted/3.99 Unweighted.

My ACT score is a 34 (33 Math, 35 English, 35 Science, 32 Reading, 8 Writing).

I'm part of a math, science, and technology magnet program at our district that only has 66 people in my grade out of the four rather large high schools in my district. It has the best programs for any math or science available in this district.

My AP Test scores are:
AP US History - 5
AP English Language/Composition - 4
AP Computer Science A - 5

I have taken all of the highest level math, science, english, and social studies classes available to me except for government in 11th grade due to a schedule conflict.

I only have taken one year of German, which I know is not good but the magnet program makes a ton of scheduling conflicts because of switching buildings for each half of the day, and the local community college doesn't offer German over the summers.

My Senior year schedule:
AP Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus BC
Orchestra
Theatre Arts III
AP English Literature and Composition

I am a 3-time qualifier for the second round of the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition.

I won't recieve my SAT Subject test scores for 3 days, I'll post them when I get them though.

Extracurriculars:

Music - Music is my main extracurricular focus. I'm a part of the school's marching band (have been for 3 years now) and am a section leader of the drumline. I've played percussion for the school's Wind Ensemble in the past and am now in the Orchestra. I have played percussion for 7 years, bass guitar for 3, and am now learning String Bass for orchestra. I also have recently started working on my voice and am going to compete with that in December, but more on that in a bit.

Theatre - Theatre is my other main extracurricular. I'm currently a part of my 9th school play. For seven of these plays I have worked as a lighting technician and have done light designs for two of those, meaning that for those plays I was the head of the lighting crew. One of these Light designs won a top state award from the International Thespian Society. I am slated to compete with my second Light design and a quartet scene from a musical at this competition this December. For the other plays I have been a chorus member, but I'm slated to have a lead role in the next musical we do.

National Honor Society - I'm a part of my school's National Honor Society's Executive Board and the head of the Special Projects Committee, which organizes induction and an Earth Day clean up. I am also currently trying to win approval to organize a charity concert at the school. In addition to these leadership responsibilities, I have to complete 25 Hours of community service a year.

MST Activites Council - Essentially the magnet program's equivalent of Student Council; We organize charity fund-raisers throughout the school and school events such as an annual lock-in and the yearbook. I'm co-President of this organization 9or rather I was last year; it might be discontinued this year which I'm fighting against).

Robotics - I joined the magnet program's robotics team, #217 (Thunderchickens), this year. The team is a world-championship-winning team, and I'm going to work on wiring and programming the robot. However, I won't be able to be involved early enough for this to be worth listing on an application, so I guess this is more for fun. Maybe I shouldnt have mentioned this here, but oh well.

I think this sums me up pretty well. I'm lined up for pretty good recommendations as well, I have good relationships with the teachers I'm asking and my counselor.

The school's I'm applying to are:
MIT
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell (maybe)
Brown
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
Stanford

So, what are my chances with these, and are there other schools I should be considering given these statistics? Thanks in advance!

You’re in at UMich and CMU. Brown and Cornell are reaches, but you can definitely make it into both. MIT and Stanford (especially Stanford) are more crapshoots, but they are for everyone. Your involvement in the magnet program is a definite boost for MIT. Are you doing EA?

I think your ACT score may not be quite high enough for MIT and Stanford, but you should definitely get accepted to Michigan. I think you have an ambitious list but you are a strong applicant and I think you should give these schools a shot. Chances at Cornell and CMU are very realistic and Brown is kind of unpredictable.

Financially, attending Michigan is a sound move. It was my son’s favorite school a year ago but since we live in CA he chose Cal, because it did not make financial sense to spend the additional money for OOS tuition and expenses.

Thanks! I’m applying ea to MIT and umich, the other ones are all restrictive early decision and I don’t want to get tied down somewhere where I can’t get any financial aid.

Well, I got my SAT II scores in today:
Math II - 760
Chem - 740
Physics - 650

I know thy physics grade is really low, I took it because I felt like I did really poorly on Chem so I figured I might as well try it, and I ended up doing better on Chem than I thought. I’m retaking Chemisty and Math in November and I think I’ll be fine, as schools that only ask for a math and a science will only consider the higher science test anyways.

Also, would I have enough of a chance to even bother with Caltech? I was going to throw my application their way as well, but then i realized I don’t really have any math/science extracurriculars. Well I suppose I could use the lighting for drama as physics, because it essentially is, and talk about my involvement with the Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition and my last second foray into FIRST, but I don’t know if any of that shows a strong enough commitment to science for them. Also If I were to apply, should I apply now to make the Early action deadline or should I wait for the regular decision?

Bump cause I need somebody to answer my question about Caltech

cornell seems likely. If you want to save money as a Michigan resident go to Ann Arbor.
