36 hours volunteering at the local library, shelving books.

Please Chance me for the following UCs:
UCB < --- My number one choice, but I realize this is a big reach for me
UCLA < --- same as above, except I don't have that much of a desire to attend here
UCSD < --- Hoping, very strongly to get into this college...though I realize I am lacking
UCI
UCSB
UCD
UCR < --- Should I bother putting this as a safety or am I probably going to get into one of the middle tier UCs?

I would love to know my chances for UCSD and UCB, especially, though I realize my GPA puts me at a huge disadvantage there.

And a final question to you guys,
I just got my subject test scores back today and I did better than I thought on math II and a little lower than what I had hoped for biology.

I signed up for the Biology and Math II subject tests in December already.
My question is this:
Should I retake Biology and Math II for 780+ math and 750+ Bio? Or should I retake my reasoning instead for a 2200+?

I'm fairly certain if I took the tests again I would do better.
I took my reasoning with an hour of sleep and pulled a 2140 if that helps any and I pretty much took biology cold.
Though for a 750+ Bio, I would probably have put in quite the effort while Reasoning I think I can take it without prep in December.

Oh and I plan on applying as a Biology major or something in the biological sciences, because I no idea what to do with my life. Please, your advice on this matter would be fantastic!

Firstly, I would take the reasoning test again mostly b/c the UC's do not care about SAT II's as much as the SAT I.

Also, I don't know if you know but the UC's dont give a hoot about freshman year.

UCB: is not a BIG reach, but it will still be a reach mostly b/c of GPA.
UCLA: Also a reach
UCSD: Your SAT score is around 200 pts above the avg, and your UC GPA is around .35 pts under the avg. I'd call this either a match or a high match.
UCI: Match
UCSB: Match
UCD: Match

^Thanks! I appreciate the chances.

bump
10char

Well, except for your GPA freshman year, you have solid grades and test scores. I would be a bit worried about your ECs though. Regardless, you have a decent profile so as long as your essays and recs turn out okay, you should feel good about your chances.

UCB- slight reach
UCLA- high match
UCSD- match
UCI- match
UCSB- match
UCD- safety
UCR- safety

Good luck!

UCB- reach
UCLA- high match
UCSD- match
UCI- match
UCSB- match
UCD- safety
UCR- safety

If you were to choose between taking the SAT IIs or the SAT I over again, I would go with the SAT I. As Junshik pointed out, they don't seem to weigh the SAT IIs very much.

Hmm, yeah. Thanks for the responses guys. I will definitely try and take the reasoning in December.

-bump-
Should I include Riverside as a safety?

Only if you want to go. If not, then dont bother, it's a waste of money. I'm pretty sure at least one of the middle tiers will take you, if it comes to that.

UCB-reach
UCLA- slight reach
UCSD- match to slight reach (closer to match)
UCI- match
UCSB- match
UCD- match
UCSC--safe match
UCR- safety

Personally, I wouldn't worry about retaking either SAT test--I'd concentrate on your grades during this semester--and then appeal at UCSD if you are rejected there--and make sure that I had a 4.0 this semester (which might then make them reconsider a rejection there and change it to an acceptance).

I'd put UCSC in as the safety because, (as I pointed out to someone else already tonight), they have a better biology school than UC Riverside--and they are located in the redwoods close to the beach and not inland in the desert (although if you prefer the desert, then maybe that's a more appropriate school).

Also, I'd list only two of the mid-tier UCs (not all three--UCI, UCSB, and UCD). So pick the two you like best and drop the other one. Also, drop UCLA and keep UC Berkeley since neither is a likely acceptance--but at least you care about UC Berkeley and UCLA you don't.
(and I say this even though I got my MBA at UCLA and liked it there).

Good luck.

Crap, I just sent out my score reports to those 6 UCs. Does that matter? I haven't sent in my applications yet.

I hear that the amount of UCs you apply to doesn't affect your chances..

yeah, ucsd is tough, but all those others in. cal and la tough too

chance back?
