I'm really worried. My EC's are very weak, and I have know volunteering hours. also, I feel like my courses aren't rigorous enough. Do I have a shot at these schools? Thanks in advance.

Oh, and Michigan State University as well.

Bumppppppppp

Anyone?? bumpp

Bumpppppppp

Yes you have a shot. I need more information though to be able to give you more details. Your ECs and ethnicity?

And don’t bump that often :), once a day will do

Sorry about bumping. I didnt want post to be lost. I’m a URM(Black/Filipino). I have a single parent and my income is ~90,000.My EC’s don’t really go further. Due to personal reasons, I can’t participate in EC’s as well as I would have liked.

I think you have a shot because of your good SAT scores and GPA.
Keep working on those EC’s this year, maybe enter a competition or two. You can volunteer over the summer; there are many opportunities at camps, hospitals, retirement homes, just about anywhere!

I would increase the rigor of your senior courses. Take on an additional AP or two if you can.

Best wishes!

Thank you!

Fair shot at the UCs, BC, and BU. Berkley, Northwestern are high reaches. UMich is a match/slight reach. probably in at Drexel, Rutgers, and Pitt.

I don’t know much about any of the others except for the UC’s, so you can use this to judge the rest of the colleges. Your SAT is really solid and you have a very solid GPA so with that, UC Davis and UC SD are likely. It would be better if I had your major since that can affect some things, but LA and Berkeley seems a reach because of your math, but again, it depends on your intended major. Oh, and also, to boost your math, I recommend taking classes at city college (if you do have one) and try for Calculus senior year, since that looks really good! good luck!

Thank you! Good luck to you as well.

BUMP 10char

UC Berkeley - reach
UCLA - reach
Northwestern - reach
BC - maybe
UMich - likely in
Pitt - most likely in
BU - most likely in
Rutgers - in
Drexel - in

This is just based off students I know with similar stats experience at these schools, good luck!

I’d honestly have to agree with everything cpctc1 said except that I think I’d say “Maybe” instead of “reach” for UCLA. You have great scores and grades, but it’s the EC’s that might hurt you with the UC’s, Northwestern, and BC. Good luck man!

Are you taking just one AP in junior year? How will that impact your GPA?

Honors and AP’s are ranked the same… Either way, my unweighted GPA is the same.(I’m getting an A in the class. Thanks for the replies guys.

Can you tell us a little bit about your school, such as

what is the average SAT score?

size of class and how many National Merit Semifinalists each year?

Average SAT score is a 1600. We have about 1-3 Semifinalists and 5-10 commended a year. It’s a semicompetitive school in NJ, with about 5-10 Ivy admits a year, 1-3 of those to HYP.

Unless there are less than 250 kids in your class and the conselors are willing to write on your transcript that you took the most challenging courseload at your school, here is what I think:

UC Berkeley - high reach
UCLA -reach
USC -reach
UMichigan-Ann Arbor -reach
Northwestern -high reach
Boston College -reach
Boston University -match
UPitt -safety
Rutgers -safety
Drexel -safety

I believe you had the standardized scores to get into most of these schools, but do not understand why you didn’t take a more difficult courseload?
