Early - Cornell ED, UVA EA, UMich EA, Villanova EA
RD - Duke, Northwestern, Vandy, USC, Lehigh, Hopkins

RD at Duke and NU will be significant reaches.

how does it look for Cornell ED?

Cornell is obviously a selective school in the same grouping as NU and Duke. However, ED should improve your chances slightly.

I’m not saying to not apply, but just informing you that some of those schools are incredibly selective and are becoming increasingly difficult to get into.

Which school in Cornell are you applying to? You have a solid shot at Cornell ED, will go either way there. Decent-low shot at UVA (much higher if you live in VA), probably in at umich, in at villanova, outside shot at vanderbilt and johns Hopkins, solid shot at USC an lehigh, and very unlikely at duke and northwestern, particularly duke

NU’s RD selectivity is comparable to Duke’s. Sorry, kid. We all know your motives at this point and gets a bit exhausting having to correct you time and time again.

Edited for a typo.

What motives, lol? And why the kid? Do you really think Im trying to degrade your school, having gone through the same process as you, done my research, and got into comparable selective schools too as northwestern? All that I implied was that I thought duke may be Generally a bit more selective than nu even though there are some who get into one and denied at the other and vice versa.

I’ve just seen you repeatedly downplaying NU. Do I honestly care? Not too much.

It’s just annoying when one has an agenda toward certain schools, for whatever reason, and gives misguided information. Apologies if I’ve misinterpreted your several posts about NU.

It’s ok, perfectly understandable.

I’m debating between applying to the general colleges (arts & sciences, etc.) and applying to the engineering colleges. My interests lie in econ/finance, math, physics, and chem.

If your interest aren’t engineering, don’t apply to the engineering colleges.

New list - all engineering

Cornell ED
UVA EA
Villanova EA
Duke
USC
Vanderbilt

is this list too reachy? i want to keep it to <10 schools, too

Is this your final list of colleges you are applying to? I don’t see any safety schools there.

I was hoping for Villanova based on Naviance averages from my school. But does that seem unreasonable and more like a match?

Villanova is a safety, IMO. But to need more, have some options come selection time. If you need <10, you can still choose three safeties to apply to.

Oh I overlooked villanova for some reason haha. List isn’t bad, I see you have 1 safety, 1 match (USC) and 4 reaches. You may want to add another safety and/or match. You should take a look at Carnegie Mellon, rice and Georgia tech

Update: got 5s on Chem, English Language, and U.S. History
So assume AP Scholar

Need help with my college list, really trying to keep it to 5 schools:

Cornell ED, Michigan EA, Northwestern, USC
—really set on these 4. in my opinion, Cornell and Northwestern are reaches while Michigan and USC are closer to matches.

And a safety: Maryland, Illinois, Penn State?
—I’m OOS and looking for a combo of merit and need aid, really not interested in UMass at the moment so exploring other options; it’s too close to home

Intended major: EE and/or CS
Looking for Greek life, D1 sports, and great career placement/recruiting

In my experience, although two schools may be very similar in terms of admissions, it is totally possible to get into one and denied from the other for no obvious reason. So I would say apply to all of them and you’ll likely get into some and denied from others. No need to stick to five applications in my opinion. If the fees are an issue call the admissions office and ask about waivers. Good luck!
