Im really worried becuase I got a C in first semester of ap calc ab in my soph year! I wonder if that breaks my chances of making it into any of the schools. Do top schools look at upward trends because there is a huge one for my gpa. I got all a's in my junior year and so far in senior year.

I am planning to major in ecology and evolutionary biology and am going the pre med path with hopes of getting into medical school!

I really, really want to go to Brown! Other schools I am applying to are Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Uc's(ucla, ucb, ucsd), harvey mudd.

Thanks for any insight!

bump…

Your ECs are too weak for many of those schools.

Yale, Columbia, Stanford - high reaches
Brown - reach
ucla, ucb - matches
ucsd - low match
harvey mudd - low reach

Yale, Stanford - high reaches
Columbia, Brown - reaches
UCLA, UCB, Harvey Mudd - low reaches / high matches
UCSD - low match / safety
best of luck!!

what are good ec’s?

1)National competitons and/or awards
2)Leadership positions
3)Strong sports ability. If you’re good enough to be recruited, your chances improve greatly. For certain schools such as Stanford, the number of recruited athletes is not insignificant.
4)Internships at top companies or prestigious institutions

You have a reallt good chance for schools such as vanderbilt, ucla, notre dame. As for the ivies I dont think you have more than a 30% chance to get into most of the ivies. If your essay is amazing then your chance will go up. You have a 50% chance to brown, dartmouth, cornell, duke, UPENN. You are a pretty strong canidate, but so are the rest of the people applying. I dont see too much that really stands out, that being said you have a good chance. Chance me back please
