THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not as familar with Tufts or Colgate, but I think you’re in their range–Tufts likely low reach/high target, and Colgate mid-high target. As to Columbia, its getting harder and harder each year (I think they recently dropped to something like 6% acceptance???), but I think you’re getting there, probably a reach though (Ivies are reaches for everyone, no matter what they say, total crapshoots).

Thank you for the chance!
Anyone else?

your stats are great, but since your ECs are all over the place i would really try and focus on one thing you are very passionate about in your essay and show how it changed you. tufts is a great school, but you might need to take more APs. not sure though.

Here are a couple of suggestions about Colgate which might be useful to you (and others) generally.

Firstly, you have a better chance of gaining admission and a fin aid package that suits when you indicate a clear preference for one school, all things being equal, in terms of other candidates. That’s why ED is so successful for the eager and qualified.

Also, I am sure that you know that Colgate does not offer an engineering major. It’s a liberal arts college (LAC) which is unique in many respects: larger than most with 2850 undergrads, rural 3000 Hamilton NY with a strong town-gown community sense, Division 1 sports with the enthusiasm it carries, 6 fraternities/3 sororities, and the most energetic LAC alumni community judging by club events yearly (after Williams).

Your 3 choices at a glance are varied and that’s a good thing since there is probably a common thread of a personal nature. Now you will want to decide to broaden your search and/or focus more closely on what appeals. And above all visit all three to see what’s what!

Good luck

Thank you!

I have visited Colgate and while the campus is beautiful, the town Hamilton seems like a really dead town. That was just one day, and probably one part of town. Nevertheless, I really like the college! I’m unsure if I want to apply ED since there are many other schools that interest me. But thank you for the suggestions!

Tufts would be my ideal choice because it’s near Boston (great city!) and it’s close to my sister which would be easier for my parents. They also offer Biomedical Engineering which would be my ideal major. I also like the campus.

It’s hard to discern the areas you are focused on, but if you can make your interests apparent, I would say there’s a reasonable chance at Columbia (by reasonable, I refer to the inability to predict Ivies). Other than that the numbers look great. I wish I knew more about Colgate and Tufts to comment on those schools as well.

Hamilton a really dead town?

Well, it is small but is also warm and inviting. It’s quality over quantity. It has a new Indian restaurant (next month) which receives great reviews in Clinton and Utica where it’s already established, and eateries serving Mexican, Chinese, Japanese fusion, “organic”, a sports themed bar/restaurant, 2 pizza places, a big general type restaurant/bar, 3 further bars, the Colgate run “Barge” coffee shop and the Colgate bookstore, and the venerable Colgate Inn- all within a 10-15 minute walk from the Hill (where all freshmen reside).

As for suburban shopping options, there isn’t so much but Parry’s has opened a department store in the space of the former Grand Union which was displaced by the massive Price Shopper. Of course there are small shops in town too, alongside the movie theater and performance theater, hair and nail salons etc.

Now that you know all this I hope you more comfortable with what Hamilton offers!

Good luck!
