ECs/Volunteer work
-Have had a lead in 6 shows since my Freshman Year of high school. We are a very renowned theater program in the state, and are recognized as a very competitive and established theater program. Keep in mind that a show takes the equivalent time dedication as a varsity sport.
-I am co-chair for a service program run by town officials, a lot of time and dedication, I lead 24 other students doing various community work, planning social events, and more.
- I co-founded my church youth group.
-On the board for my drama guild.
-Got a full time summer job as a nanny (or a manny... haha) for two boys 8 hrs a day, 4 days a week, 8 weeks.
-Have been in at least 3-4 shows a year since 4th grade. ~20. I've been a lead in probably 12 of those shows.
- 11 Years of town league baseball and 1 year of JV volleyball (Had to quit due to injury)
- Take summer courses at MIT for Neuroscience, Statistics, and Photography.

VOLUNTEER WORK:
- Over 70 Hours of community service at a local theatre company for kids.
-Community service with youth group: 45 hrs
-Community service with town service group: 55 hrs (1st year without being co-chair, will significantly increase)
- Helped with a group of 6th grade boys with a youth service in town to take them on field trips after school (i.e. bowling, golfing, etc) this past year, will do again next year. ~ 20 Hrs
-Total Volunteer Hours: 200+ hrs.

By the way, if anyone thinks this does matter toward am admission decision, I was given an award for excellence in acting by the Massachusetts high school drama guild.

Your GPA is kinda low,but your SAT really make up for it. Your extra-curricular and volunteer activities look great. I think you have a good chance.

bump. aaaand we’re only allowed to take APs junior and senior year, so that’s another reason the gpa may be low. 5 APs is also considered a loooot. average is 2

Very good chance at NYU (CAS). My son got in with a half scholarship (also OOS) with similar stats. One warning about the academic scholarships - many are tied to your financial status (unless most schools which are solely merit-based) so if you get one and your parents make more money in later years, you can lose some or all of it. It’s a big deal at an expensive school like NYU.

I’m taking 3 APs next year, so that should really help boost my GPA. However, it’ll only be a 4.31 at highest. Let me reiterate that without that freshman year first semester, my GPA would currently be a 4.31, and would be a 4.4 by the time adcoms read my app.

All I know is I’m looking at nyu too and you seem like a better applicant than me!! Haha… I also was diagnosed with ADHD in highschool and had a very hard time freshman and sophomore year. Since I’ve been on medication, my grades have improved tremendously (I got straight a’s this year) anyways, sorry I don’t have any valuable input. Good luck thooo!

Also, I’m about to make a chance me. Check it out once i post it? Give me any input you have if you can! Thanks.
