Chance me for UC Berkeley, Michigan, UCLA, etc.

Hi everyone!
I am currently a rising senior in high school. Please chance me for UC Berkeley, Boston College, UCLA, Lehigh, UMich and Colgate. I am out-of-state so I know that the competition will be pretty stiff for Berkeley, Michigan and UCLA. I want to major in either economics or anthropology. Here is some general info. about me:

-White male
-3.9 unweighted GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
-2110 on my SAT
-33 on my ACT
-I go to a very good public high school in New York (ranked 11th in the state). As for class rank, my school doesn't rank. Will this be taken into consideration?
-National Honor Society.
-2 letters of recommendation (except UC Berkeley and UCLA do not want them).

My classes:
-6 AP's: AP French V, AP European History, AP English Literature and Composition, AP English Language and Composition, AP Physics and AP Macroeconomics.
-6 Honors courses: Humanities I-III Honors, Biology Honors, Chemistry Honors, French III Honors, French IV Honors, and Algebra 2 Honors.

Sports:
-I play on two baseball teams and one basketball team--both for 4 years. I also compete in mountain bike races on a team.

Extracurriculars/ Volunteer Work/Organizations/Clubs:
-I play trumpet and am the section leader for my school's Wind Ensemble and 7:15 Jazz band, the two most selective music courses my school offers. I have been playing for 9 years, and have gone on to all-state music programs like NYSSMA.
-I tutor middle school students after school 2 days a week.
-JSA (Junior State of America)--3 years.
-Westchester Youth Alliance--4 years.
-Business Club--2 years.
-French Club--2 years.
-Mountain Bike Club--3 years.
-I have volunteered every summer at a local music venue/art museum. I also have worked at a bike shop for 2 years.

I have been working on my essay already with advice from some of my previous teachers, and though it could use some more work, I believe it is fairly strong so far. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Oos for UMich LSA with your stat would be a rather high match, but you may want to check the NPC to see if it is affordable to you.

Your act score is pretty good, but I wouldn’t send your SAT score. If you retake the SAT, your chances would be increased since the UCs you want to get into put a lot of emphasis on academics. I think mountain biking is rather unique so keep that up, as well as your trumpet playing.
UCLA: low reach
Berkeley: mid reach
Umich: high match
Boston college: low reach
Good luck!
Please chance me back: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

All of your specs are really good. If it was me, I would focus on your essay. No offense, but your specs are the same as tons of other people. Try to find something that makes you different, something that can’t be discovered through a transcript. That is what teachers and counselors try to do with recommendations. Talk about business club and how it bolstered your interest in economics because of that one year where you went to a cool conference or something else and how that interest will tie into your career. Like I said, your grades and scores are good, focus on the thing that not everyone can achieve.

I don’t know enough about those colleges to chance you, but @Dream0n seems pretty accurate, although I would say Berkeley is a low reach.

Hi, your scores and gpa look great but generally it’s easier to get into top schools like berkeley with a 2200+ or a 34+, so if you wanted to retake that might help. Other than that I think you have a good shot at all of these schools, good luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest</a></p>

Thanks everyone for you responses! I forgot to mention that I will try to retake the SAT this fall before I apply–and raise it up to at least a 2200. I plan to do interviews with a few of the schools I mentioned; this way I can talk about some interesting traits (anything to stand out). How about my chances for Lehigh or Colgate?

Those are probably more likely to accept you.
Have you run NPCs and can you afford your EFCs for the privates and OOS publics?

All of these schools are affordable for me and my family; we discussed about EFCs and money isn’t really an issue with my family. Thanks!

SAT 2200 is about the same or slightly lower than ACT 33. Since you are performing better at ACT, you probably want to retake ACT instead of SAT. There is no preference between these 2 standardized tests, so you should focus on whichever one you perform better.

UCLA: high match
Berkeley: low reach
Umich: high match
Boston college: high match

i think you should just keep the ACT score and spend the time that you would study for the SAT again to write really good essays. also when you say your specs say what you did specifically and what you got out of them.

please chance me back!!!

Thanks @billcsho‌ and @applesauce3‌. I appreciate the advice, and you’re right: if anything, I should try to improve my ACT and send that instead.

UCLA: High match/low reach
Berkeley: Reach
Umich: High match

Sorry, those are the only ones that I am decently familiar with. However, I think you have a good shot at all of them. Your stats are competitive and I think that if you have a killer essay, that will put you over your peers. Thanks for chancing me!

No problem. Thanks!

What’s your UC GPA?

UC’s do not provide any financial aid or scholarships, so if your parents can afford $60K per year then you might be considered but UC’s are ultra hard to get admission.
