Chance me plz...u guys r gonna love this one

Im considering the following Universities: University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Michigan State, UCSB, Rice, and UC-Berkeley

G.P.A UW- 3.3 or 3.4
ACT: 29
EC's: 3 Varsity sports, Captain in all, Jazz/concert/marching Band-1st chair, Captain of a mentorship program 2 years, National Honors Society, and a whole bunch of other clubs and stuff. I dont feel like listing all my ECs just know I have a LOAD of em.
Residence: Live in Michigan
AP's/Honors-6 after I graduate
I'll also be taking classes at a community college before I go

What are my chances for these colleges and what can i do 2 increase my chances?

Berkeley and Rice are unlikely, maybe SB depending on your UC weighted GPA (but why pay almost $50K year with no aid when you have good in state options?), don’t know the others.

should I aim for a higher ACT score you think?

It would really help. At UCs, a high score can balance a lower GPA with the formulas they use.

what kind of formula do the UC’s use?? Wat score do u think i should aim for to balance it out (better yet, to give me an edge)? like 34?

UC prefers SAT score. ACT are more for East Coast schools

oh…so wat SAT score should I aim 4 then? based on my gpa

He’s completely incorrect. UCs give equal weight for both.

32 + would be good.

asian75, definitely false. Eastern schools prefer the SAT, tha ACT is midwest phenomenon

so since I live in Michigan…U of M would rather see the SAT? or should I just not bother with it and just submit my ACT score with my transcript?

Just submit the higher score.

What are your SAT IIs?

i havent taken them. should I?? all i took was the ACT and I got a 29 omposite

Taken from the UC Admissions website:
Two SAT Subject Tests.
These must be in two different areas, chosen from the following: English, history and social studies, mathematics (Level 2 only), science or language other than English.

Figure out your UC GPA. The method for doing so is on the UC Pathways website. Then we can better advise.

Keep in mind that UCs are undergoing a budget crisis. Their 4 year graduation rates were already low, but with cuts it could really be hard to graduate in 4 years. That could make going to one more expensive than any private college. Think this through!

If you can get into Berkely OOS, you can get into some much better options for the same amount of $$

Um gpa-3.35
uc gpa-3.37

This will help you see what’s needed at each UC:
