First-gen college student
Lower middle class
Father retired, mother doesn't work
From very small school
No one else from my school has applied
Rec Letters are good, but not excellent (as in, they are pretty general; one from my ap lit teacher talks about how he believes I am a fantastic writing, etc. and the other from my bio teacher talks about my commitment to learning, work ethic, community service, etc.)

Again, I know this school is a reach for anyone, and I wasn't going to apply. But when I saw the deadline was moved to Jan. 15th, I took it as a sign....ha.

you actually seem like a potential candidate. I’m not impressed with your ACT score, so if you could retake it you should; luckily, Uchicago seems to care about test scores less than other top schools. what will make or break you are your essays. take your time with them, and make sure to knock them out of the park. avoid generic essays that could fit any other school, and try to show your personality.

Only having 2 AP’s might kill you.

What are you guys talking about? If her school only offers 5, two APs is fine. It’s not going to have some catastrophic effect on her application lol.

Less than 8% chance whether you like it or not
