Hello please chance me for UCLA, UCB, John Hopkins, Yale, Stanford and NYU
SAT: 2100 (770 M, 650 R, 680 W) Which is 1470 New SAT (on concordance)
SATII: 800 Bio, 740 MATH1, 720MATH2
GPA: 3.98 UW. School does not offer AP so made sure I get As on all my classes.
White Middle Eastern, will pay full OOS tuition.
I got lot’s of ECs, had a rough life and full of stuff I did, no need to put it here just make sure I got many ECs and awards.
Your SAT and GPA are both on par for NYU and UCLA. 2100 is basically average for Berkeley, so you would be up against thousands with similar stats to you. Your SAT is low for Yale, Stanford, and a little low for John Hopkins too. 720 Math II for Stanford is very low, and at all of those schools, there are thousands upon thousands of students with identical (if not better) statistics than you.
Without detailed ECs it’s hard to comment on that.
Are you saying in your post that you have never taken an AP/IB class? What about honors/accelerated/anything weighted or something at the local community college? If you’ve never taken an AP or IB level class, I can definitely see a school like Yale or Stanford wondering if you can handle college coursework. That could be a HUGE problem for you.
I haven’t had the chance to take any courses other than school-work. I’m a rising senior, it is late to take such courses? (If I find any) I might retake Math II because I took it with no preparation and I felt confident to take an unplanned 3rd test when my main exams were bio and math1 (bad idea)
It’s never a bad idea to retake tests - although keep in mind Stanford has you report every test you take.
It is maybe a little late, but of course you are not going to hurt your chances by trying to get into say five AP/IB classes. Do any schools in your area offer those classes? At my school, many students opt to dual enroll and take more rigorous coursework at surrounding high schools, or classes that aren’t offered. You can look into this option.
I know people here on CC like to believe that the only important thing in admission decisions is GPA and test scores, but there is much more to consider. No, colleges won’t look down on you for not taking AP courses if your school does not offer them, but are you challenging yourself academically? Meaning are you taking the most challenging courses your school does offer? Are you in the top 10 or 5% of your class? If you want to go by numbers only, you are on track to compete well at NYU and UCLA. (However, being OOS your chances are significantly diminished. UCB is the same story if not worse.) Yale and Stanford are mega reaches for ANY applicant, including the 4.0/2400 types. So in reality, are your ECs and awards as significant as you say they are?
