Chance me for UCs and I'll chance back!! (psst I'm very average)

GPA, unweighted 9th/10th/FS 11th 3.45
weighted - 3.73

SATs M 720, CR 690, W 700

My Class rank is barely in the top 20%, I go to a fairly competitive public high school.

Extracurriculars-Captain of girl's soccer team,
-Officer of Chinese club(pres) and Korean Club(secretary)
-Involved in Red Cross, Academic Decathlon, NHS & CSF, marching band
-Over 300 hrs of volunteer at various places and about 60 hours so far from a hospital
- I also work part time at a fast food restaurant

Received a 4 on my AP Euro test and a 5 on AP Bio (although I got B's&C's in the classes)

My grades, seems pretty dismal compared to the CC-ers here, but I've been having an upward trend. My grades go up, semester by semester. This semester (first sem. of Junior year), I received only TWO B's. In APUSH and Pre-Calculous Honors. I was very disappointed by my pre-cal grade, it was a 88%..

So far, assuming I keep up with this and manage to pull off a 4.0 next semester, what are my chances of getting into

UCSD
UC Davis
UCI
UCSB

and high reaches...
UCLA
UCB

Also, some out of state schools
Carnegie-Mellon
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
NYU
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Any other engineering schools anyone could suggest? Also, I am going to apply for the Air Force ROTC and Army ROTC, as well as the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Military Academy. Don't worry about the military academies, unless you have any info on them or the ROTC scholarships to help me.

So far in my high school career, I have not earned an A in a math class. Always B's. I really expected an A this year, yet I disappointed myself. How will this reflect on my desire to become an engineer? I really don't believe the B's mean I'm bad at math, I really think I'm quite good. The teachers are very critical on how students present their work on tests, therefore points are taken off even if I get the answer right. But I also tend to ignore my math homework, so that part is completely my fault.

How much will it help me if I received 700+ on SAT II Subject test in Math II and attended an engineering summer seminar?

Also, what else could I do to improve my chances of getting into those schools. If I earned a 4.0 next year, would that help me much?

The SAT II score will definitely look good and make up for the B’s.

if you can get your weighted GPA up that would really help and I think you have time

ucsd- match/high match just because of class rank
uc davis- match
uci- match
ucla- reach
ucb- reach/high reach
nyu-high match

p.s. a b is my no means mediocre so don’t feel bad! you’ve done a great job :)

Thanks, I really appreciate that. Though I’m still very disappointed in myself, I just needed 2% for that A in pre-cal!

UCSD- in
UC Davis- in
UCI- in
UCSB- in

UCLA- reach
UCB- reach

I agree, the SAT II scores will do a load of good. I cant chance on those others, because i dont really have a good background on those schools.
Good Luck!

i think you can pretty much get in to all of the Uc’s except maybe LA and Berkeley.

That makes me very happy, because UCSD is what I’m going for realistically. I just saw your thread, I’ll chance you back!

UCSD - Target
UC Davis - In
UCI - In
UCSB - Target

and high reaches…
UCLA - Reach
UCB - Reach

Also, some out of state schools
Carnegie-Mellon - Reach
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Target - I strongly recommend this college btw
NYU - Reach
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology - Reach

Sorry for bringing up with old chance thread, but I did not really feel like making another thread. Anyway, since I am interested in an engineering major and applying to schools strong in engineering, how bad does it look that I’ve only been able to earn B’s in my math classes. And what can I do to make myself look better, other than scoring high in the SAT Subject Tests in math II and earning an A next semester?

Also, I can’t believe some people chanced me for getting IN at UCSD. I thought they were pretty selective. Perhaps because they use a points system, it’s a little easier?

UCSD-High match
UC Davis-Low match/match
UCI-Low match/match
UCSB-Low match/match
UCLA-Reach
UCB-High match/reach (really not as predicatable as UCLA)
Carnegie-Mellon-Reach
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Don’t know about school
NYU-Low match/match
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology- Don’t know about school

Don’t short-change yourself.
