Oh and I work summers at my pool as a lifeguard, and will hopefully be volunteering this summer at the local hospital

My teacher rec's should be great along with my counselor since he's known me forever. Also, I'm friends with an alumni who got his PHD at UMich.....Would they accept a recommendation from him too?

What are the chances of me being accepted into the nursing program? I recently took the SATs in May, and I'm hoping my scores will get at least a little better.

You have your weighted/unweighted GPAs backwards. Also, you have a decent chance if you raise your SAT. That letter from the alumnus you know would definitely help if you ask me.

whoops! my bad  fixed that now
just curious, how much would I have to raise my SATs by? I’m just trying to figure out if it’s worth it at this point to put out the money to take a SAT class or something like that…

No, do not put any money into it. You can easily raise your score 200-300 points self-studying. I suggest buying the Princeton Review book and doing the practice tests. You have to be diligent and focused while studying. If you can get 200 points higher than your current score, I’d say you would have a VERY good chance.

UM Nursing to my mind is the best undergraduate nursing program in the country.

I would recognize this, because it will likely motivate you to achieve your goals.

I cannot understate the quality and rigor of education provided. It is fantastic.

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, are either of you currently enrolled there? (as nursing students or just students)
And would you recommend taking SAT IIs in any particular subjects or at all?

I would definitely recommend taking the SAT II in biology and chemistry if possible, and also math I or math II would be helpful additions.

okay!
I’m pretty much revamping my senior schedule right now…
which would be more helpful…AP chem or AP Bio? I’ve taken both bio and chem honors already. Bio was an easy A, but I had like a mind block when it came to moles in chem (plus it didn’t help that my teacher was extremely monotonous and sent me to sleep all the time…)
I don’t want to kill myself senior year, but then again I don’t want to slack off either.
So which ones out of these choices would you recommend taking?
AP US 2*
AP Psych
AP english*
AP Chem
AP Bio
calc h/statistics h (in my school stats is EXTREMELY hard and the teacher isn’t much help either…last year the only kid who got an A was caught cheating, and so technically, no one actually got an A…also my homeroom teacher teaches calc h, and she says it would be easier)
*s are non-negotiable with my parents/counselor

May SATs just came in today!
CR 690
M 650
W 620
1340/1600
1960/2400

Hi crider,

As a current nursing student at U of M, I found having a knowledge of both advanced chem and bio helpful; there is a first year class called organic biochem that you will be required to take if you attend U of M, and it is a mixture of both chem and bio so you really can’t go wrong with taking an AP class in either one of those subjects. Also, if you take and pass the AP Psych test the School of Nursing will allow you to directly pass out of Psych 111 (I didn’t take this class in high school and had to take Psych 111 and I still loved it), but either way just having the knowledge will help you. Also, as a nursing student at UMICH you are required to take a stats class, so it might help you to take that at your school if you can. Other than that it looks like you’re doing pretty well preparing for the application process. Good luck to you and please let me know if you have any more questions I can help with!

thank you! I decided to take AP Chem, AP Psych, AP english, AP US 2, and statistics honors…
I have some questions about UMich nursing…
Can AP english scores test you out of taking an english class? Are there many or at least a few out of staters in the nursing program? Any jersey kids? (Just wondering =] )
I’ve heard and seen that OOS tuition for UMich is pretty ridiculous. I was reading something the other day about how the individual schools do merit scholarships…Is this true for the nursing school? Does the nursing school give out aid?
Also, how far are the dorms from the main nursing building?
Ah I know that’s a lot of questions haha sorry!

hey guys, what are my chances of getting into the U of M school of nursing?

ACT: 26
GPA: 3.998

Honestly I don’t know why people even do these chance threads. There’s 4 different scenarios.

We say you get in and you do = you were already expecting to get in, no surprise.
We say you get in and you don’t = you’re upset because you didn’t get in.
We say you don’t get in and you do = you’re like wow you all were wrong.
We say you don’t get in and you don’t = again, you were already expecting it.

Bottom line is, I know people that have had 23 ACTs get into Nursing (girl was a Caucasian OOS) and 24 ACTs get into Engineering (Caucasian in-state) but I also know people with 33 ACTs be rejected from both with a good GPA.

Admissions is kind of a crap-shoot, you never know who’s really going to get in or get rejected. Do the best you can in high school, stay involved, and apply early. This is really the best pieces of advice that we can offer you.

I’ve actually found creating this pretty helpful.
I don’t know a lot about the admissions for UMich nursing (which is the reason I made this thread) since most of the accepted posts I’ve seen have mostly been in-staters…and I know UM is much harder for an OOS to get into than an in-stater
So basically, I wanted to get a feel for whether my stats were even in the range or not.
But thank you for the advice!

It’s not all about the result or expectation Joshrk22
People can know what their weaker spot and stronger spot
and can imporve and highlight them respectively
don’t be too negative, for your one piece of advice can help
her(him) a lot

Eddiepoo, touche…

From personal experience I doubt it would help at all but if it’s easy to get then include it.

i’ve searched around soooo much for info on admissions to the nursing school, and there is NOTHING online about the ACT score. I just wanted to say that I’m so glad to have this thread!
