chance me for UNC, UVA, Vanderbilt, etc. WILL CHANCE BACK

GPA: 3.7UW/4.45W, will probably be a 3.6 or 3.66 UW and around a 4.5W by the end of the semester. Downward trend in unweighted but upward in weighted due to increasing rigor throughout high school.

ACT: 32C, 34 E, 33 M, 32 R, 30 S, 9 essay (five point increase in less than a month lol, got scores back today)

EC’s:

  • started own cancer research fundraising/volunteering charity club at my school (raised about $1000 for organizations like St. Jude hospital and UNC Lineberger Cancer Center since I started it last semester)
  • running for NHS president
  • varsity diving all of high school. We were state champs in 9th and 10th grade and 2nd in states junior year. I was MVP freshman year and captain this year (junior year)
  • got a job as the head diving coach of a country club dive team this summer
  • cross country all of high school
  • ambassador for my school
  • BETA club (9th & 10th grade only, only for underclassmen)

CLASS RANK: top 22%. I go the best and most competitive high school in North Carolina according to USNWR. My school sends a lot of people to the ivy’s and Duke and other schools like that. My rank will probably go up by the end of the semester

RIGOR: I take more AP’s than most people at my school.

I am a white, male junior at the best high school in my home state of North Carolina. UNC has been my dream school for years and that is where I really want to go. I am applying as in-state (obviously) and EA. I am also applying to UVA, Vanderbilt (legacy, obvious reach), UGA, UT-Austin, VT, Wake Forest, and I might apply to an Ivy just to see.

I WILL CHANCE BACK!

I think that you being instate along with your states makes you a definite, if not, sure-in for UNC. UVA and Vanderbild may be reaches but you never know. If you right good essays and have good recomendations, your chances for those two will increase a little more. Good Luck!

UNC- match
Unc is heavy on the instate and your stats are in their range if not better
UVA- low reach
Uva is usually a reach for most students so it is hard to say and the same goes for vandy @agc1998‌

bump

I would definitely say that you have a fighting chance at UNC Chapel Hill, your ECs are fantastic. Also, your ACT score is pretty good and UNC LOOOOVES instate so I would say it’s a match.
Vanderbilt and UVA I would say are reaches, but not far from matches, just bump up your GPA I would say. Also, UVA is hard to get into out of state, if you were instate I would say definite match.

UNC- Match
UVA- Low Reach
Vandy- Low Reach
UGA- Low Match/Safety (check out HC)
VT- Match
UT Austin- High Match
Lower Ivys (Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown)- Mid/Low Reach
Mid Ivys (UPenn, Columbia)- Reach
Upper Ivys (Yale, Princeton, Harvard)- High Reach

Your ECs are good, and your GPA should be fine for the majority of these schools, your test scores are a little on the lower end for The Ivys, UVA (OOS), and Vandy, although your Legacy status should help there. Keep taking those Standardized tests to see if those could give you a little more of an edge at the upper end of your list, if you are dead-set on UNC and want to apply EA then you are a pretty sure admit there thanks to your in state status, that’s also going to be the same factor keeping you out of UVA though. If you are serious about Georgia, I would look into their honors college because your scores are in that ballpark. You’ll stand a better chance at the ivys with higher scores but then again, wouldn’t everyone. The vast majority of these schools are doable so keep up the hard work and good luck!

Do you have a perspective major or career plan? That might help people point you in the right direction, but then again you seem to be doing just fine already.

@Hertzog I either want to go into CompSci or business… Not sure yet. All of the schools I’m looking at have decent programs for CS and Business (with the exception of schools like VT, which caters mostly to engineering stuff). And the Ivy I’m probably going to apply to for kicks is probably going to be Columbia (obvious reach) because I love NYC and the Fu Foundation Engineering School is awesome from what I hear. Also, BUMP
