Alright, I've got a pretty messed up profile... so any predictions would be appreciated.

Chinese-American from New Jersey

3.4 W GPA (No honors/AP except Chinese until Senior year, taking 4 now)

Pretty crappy trend, terrible freshman year, bad sophomore year, good Junior year, pretty decent first semester grades in all AP classes senior year

2200 SAT (680 CR, 750 Math, 770 Writing)

750 Math II, 710 US History

Tons of volunteer service @ local hospitals & the Chinese School, interned at a Boston College physics lab for 2 weeks, FBLA/FLDC member for 4 years (no leadership), Robotics programming member for 2 years.

I know it's a lot to ingest, but if you can help me out, thanks!

From what is given, I’d say you’re a reach. Your SAT scores are really good, but the lack of involvement in leadership and your GPA will hold you down. What do you expect to get in your classes this semester? What is “pretty decent?”

Well I can see you getting in only because you’re OOS, so you’ll pay a fortune :O. Also, you’ll probably be accepted to DGS.

Your being OOS is not a beneficial factor in your admissions application. It is not considered a plus, or a minus. Your SAT is fine. Your GPA, is, if anything weighed more heavily than test scores, and does not bode well for you. Your upward trend will be noted, but really, your application will be up against top notch applicants for a limited number of slots. I’d say apply to a specific program in Engineering, if you are not accepted, I’d say your test scores will likely get you an offer from DGS, where you can take the same classes as admitted engineers, obtain the grades you’ll need for transfer, and eventually be able to successfully transfer into the engineering program at the top-notch Engineering school that UIUC is.
