Northwestern- reach
UChicago EA- low reach
Cornell- low reach
UC Berkeley- high match
Michigan (Ross) EA- match
NYU (Stern)- high match
UW Madison EA- not familiar sorry
Indiana (Kelley) EA- match/safety
UT Austin- safety
UIUC (in-state) EA- safety
Ohio State EA-safety

good luck!

@tryingforharvard Thank you!

Any other comments from anyone else?

UT Austin is probably more of a match than a safety.

@rebecca12345 Is it because I am out of state?

@tigerman333 yeah, schools like UT and UVA are harder OOS

At least, that’s what I’ve heard. I’m no expert

bump

UVA is strange in that it actually likes out of state students. Other posters have argued Berkeley as a high match, but it might be more of a reach. Debatable.

You need to get that math 2 score up. A 710 puts you in the 50th percentile.

@PhysicsWizard Yeah, I’m taking it again next weekend. I’m not applying to UVA however.

How’d you do on your SATs? A 32 isn’t very competitive for the top schools on your list. Your GPA is great though! Chance me?

@doorrealthe Pretty bad. I would rather no mention it.

@tigerman333, here is my take. UT Austin is a reach- especially if you are applying to McCombs. Definitely not a safety. It may be a safety reach but nonetheless not a sure thing. Yes, because UT Austin is incredibly overwhelmed with the in state applicants and by law they have to take 75% of the applicant pool in state. You get an incredible amount of top in state kids applying. It’s not like CA public schools that are accepting OSS applicants to line their coffers.

This is my advise to get a better read- go to the schools CDS and compare your stats to the most recent accepted class of kids. That will give you a good idea of how you compare and your chances. It’s an incredible amount of info and if used right it will help you.

Are your parents OK with paying for an OSS public school if you get in? UT will not most likely not offer anything in terms of fin aid or merit to you.

I disagree with UChicago as a low reach. It’s a reach. It had a 6.7% acceptance for last year. I don’t think it will increase. The school seems hell bent on continuing to lower it.

You have 12 schools on your list. That’s a lot. As the application ramps up, you will be exhausted. You might want to really start to focus in on defining what you want and decrease the load.

Good luck.

Wow, how did you post so much? Did you start when you were born? You are heavy core CCer.

Berkeley will be a tough admit because your GPA and SAT are not competitive with the top in-state applicants.

Can your parents afford the OOS tuition? $55K per year. No financial aid for OOS students. Nothing, zip, nada.

Not so fast @goingnutsmom. Political pressure has changed California public school admissions. More instate residents and less OOS residents beginning with this years applicant pools.

^Good to know. Is there a minimium that CA public flagship school is required to take (like UT)?

That would be Berkeley, right?

Berkeley.
As far as I know, no minimum has been set at the UC’s.

@goingnutsmom I have actually changed my list since then. It is as follows-

Cornell
Penn
Berkeley
Northwestern
Chicago
Minnesota
Michigan
Illinois
Indiana
UW Madison
NYU

@“aunt bea” Yes, they are fine with it
