Chance me for UPenn engineering transfer?

HS GPA: 3.3 (Went to the top private school in my state) very rigorous
SAT: 1940
Extracurriculars: Debate, won numerous award. place number 1 at state in our division

College GPA: 3.51 (hopefully 3.6ish after this semester)
University I attend: Wake Forest (known as Work Forest) Really worked my ass off for even a 3.5 GPA which is kind of low
Currently: Sophomore
Rigorous classes: Organic chem 1 & 2, multivariable calculus, calc 2, general physics 1, first year seminar, english class, spanish

This semester classes: Physical chemistry 1, general physics 2, linear algebra, developmental psychology, health and exercise science

leadership: vice president at an environmental club in high school, worked as an summer intern at a pharmaceutical company over the summer.

In a fraternity and on the Dean's list both semesters

probably join a couple of clubs at the start of this semester

Do you want me to be brutality honest? I attended a Wharton transfer session last year and our guide told us that in order to be competitive, you should have at least at 3.7+ to be competitive, and a 3.8 to really stand a chance. Remember, you will be facing not only people from other Ivy’s and top colleges with stellar GPA’s and spotless high school record, but internal transfers as well. Your math is good, but make sure that you also do differential equations and a computer science course for engineering. I also believe (just speculation) that the transfer rate may be low there, but I don’t have the numbers to back that statement up.
All in all, you may want to look at another school for engineering. Or, just apply and see what happens. Good luck man.

Isn’t Wharton especially difficult, but other departments such as engineering, although difficult, not as difficult?

I don’t want to see be a downer but I’d say your chances are very low

Can someone explain why my chances are so low? I was pledging last semester and still got a 3.4 GPA at a top 25 school which is well known for grade deflation…I figure most schools would take a 3.5 Wake Forest student over a 4.0 community college student…

The thing is, UPenn is not “most schools”. And that is not always true about the CC 4.0 gpa being accepted over a 3.4. Some admission committees love non-traditional students and students that have made a major turn around since high school. Some community college students may have had 3.7+ gpas in high school, took some time off or for whatever reason did not attend a 4 year school.

Also, as I stated earlier, while you are going to be up against CC students, you are also going to be up against other Ivy League students who wish to transfer schools. They will be your competition.

Did made A’s in your math courses. Those will be most paramount be being looked at by the admission committees for an engineering transfer prospect.

@ OP: Could you please explain why you want to leave Wake to go study engineering @ Penn? I’m in a similar situation, and just trying to make sure I’m making the right decision trying to transfer out of a top 25 school to study engineering elsewhere. Feel free to PM me.
