You are in the worst part of VA when it comes to applications to UVA. Son applied to UVA from fairfax county and did not get in ED. I think at his school 20 went to UVA. VTech was even worse then UVA with students being rejected with 4.4.
I would say apply and show them a lot of interest in your essay. Also, major could be helpful. Engineering is very difficult (all his friends went the engineering route). Good part of UVA has to have a 70% instate class
Do you know your class rank?
Also, this is the first year UVa has offered ED since they eliminated it in 2006. At that time they had around 16,000 applicants and last year there were over 40,000 (and expect an increase coming off the basketball National Championship.)
So there is no statistical frame of reference to provide guidance for ED but assume it will give you the greatest opportunity to get in than the other options (EA or RD). I would assume youâll see a significant jump in yield with a substantial drop in acceptance rate for EA and even more so RD.
And please do not use an essay to âshow interestâ in UVA. You application is proof that you are interested. The essay is to share things like voice and personality, which donât come across in the rest of the application. You can also read my essay advice on the blog if youâd like more about that.
