bump

Just saying, which one of those are you applying to early? Some are early action, some early decision, some REA soo that could affect your chances.

I’d say being hispanic gives you a hook and having those great stats boosts it even more.

They are all high/mid reaches just cuz there are so many others, but for sure you will get into at least 1 one of the abovementioned colleges IF you don’t mess up the supplemental essays/teacher recs

@master1006 Thanks!
Anyone else?

bump

bump

@ClassicalCollege - none of these schools are reaches for you. HYPSM are matches. That doesn’t mean you will get into all of them (most matches at any one given school get rejected), but I would be very surprised if you did not get into at least one of HYPSM, and I suspect you might get into 2 or more if you make a good impression.

As @master1006 commented, you should absolutely be applying EA to one (or more) of these schools, assuming you can get your application ready in time. It’s not to your advantage to submit a rushed application early though.

I don’t think that Purdue is a reach for you. Not sure if @master1006 intended to say this. I’d say you’re in at purdue, low match at gatech. HYPSM etc are reach for everybody.
Chance back please! I’m on mobile so can’t paste the link. Please go on My profile and chance my thread! It says something like Chance an Indian for gatech purdue etc.

Your ACT scores are solid, so I wouldn’t worry about retaking your SAT. All of the schools that require SAT II’s only require 2, so I wouldn’t retake Lit either. Your grades and stats seem solid, and it’s good that you challenged yourself outside of school. I’d say your weak point is your extra curriculars; that’s not to say that they’re horrible, they’re just not extraordinary.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton- Reaches for anyone, but I think this is where your essays will play a large part in the decision
Stanford, MIT, Northwestern- reaches, but you’re a solid candidate
Washington University in St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Rice- matches
Purdue, UT Austin, Texas A&M, Oklahoma University, Georgia Tech- All safeties
I would seriously consider narrowing down your school choices. Admissions officers see the other schools to which you apply, and this can affect their perception of how much you actually want to go to their school, thus affecting their decision. You seem like an excellent student and a solid applicant, but there’s no way all of these schools are a fit for you.

I don’t think that a college can see where else the student has applied. That would be violation of privacy, IMO. @epancotti‌

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I know that an obvious lack of interest can be evident if one applies to too many colleges, but can they really see where else I have applied?

@ClassicalCollege @BetterThanBest‌ Common App allows schools to see the other schools listed on your account.

@epancotti - That isn’t true:

https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/34/Can-schools-see-what-other-colleges-I-ve-applied-to

However, if you submit the FAFSA (for financial aid) to multiple schools at the same time, schools can see the other schools you are submitting it to, in the order you have listed them. There are strategies for ordering schools, or submitting it to different schools at different times, in order to avoid showing your college preferences to the schools based on the order of the list.

@ClassicalCollege - “reaches for everyone” is an overused cliche. HYPS are not reaches for everyone. For a school to be a reach, it implies that the odds are low that one will be accepted. There is a continuum of probability of acceptance for candidates at these schools, from a select few whose acceptance is virtually guaranteed, to a large portion of the applicant pool whose chances are virtually nil. I can’t tell where in that continuum you fit, but there’s nothing in your profile that would indicate you would be anything other than a strong candidate at any of these schools.

Don’t get complacent though when it comes to your applications, or else you might end up needing those backups!

@BldrDad‌ Thanks so much! Especially for clearing up whether or not colleges could view which other colleges I have applied to.

As long as you put equal effort into your match schools, you’re definitely in. Your stats are impressive, be confident! WashU, Rice, and Vanderbilt are three I think you have a really good shot at (REALLY GOOD), maybe Northwestern. The Ivies are crapshoots, but don’t give up on them- being Hispanic and from Nebraska that def gives you a bump up above similar applicants.
