Chance me for WASHU ED2

3.8 weighted ? I can see the low sat falling under a TO app. But this goes to price Tufts is all about the Benjamin’s. Assuming full pay.

Don’t you think it’s likely that those two students were hooked in some way?

I am guessing the lower one is an athlete.

Please look at the ED1 thread - there are quite a few high stat kids that were rejected ED1. I was very surprised at the rejections! So I disagree that anyone within the stat range gets admitted.

if directed at me, that came from naviance and our above average public high school. Agree they seem low, which is why I included them.

Not directed at anyone. Below are two rejections from the ED1 thread (there are others). So I just think the statement “everyone” in their stats range gets admitted is not true.

Son
ACT35
GPA 4.0 unweighted
15 APs

Perfect (36) decent grades (4.1 weighted after Jr year, 12 APs, 4 Post APs)

If you are not 100% set on engineering and wish to have some flexibility to change your path - then don’t automatically withdraw the WashU ED2. WashU offers greater ability to change majors/ double major. If you have an inkling of wishing to pursue a second major in business or one of the humanities, or if considering pre-med then discuss this with your counselor before you make a decision.

Those could be athletes

For her interest area I think Wash U is a great fit and probably stronger rep than many other top schools. And in our district (top CT public school) Tufts is definitely “easier” than Wash U - so the Naviance experiences must flex depending on students and peer set? My DS chose Wash U over Tufts (and Cornell) because of Olin undergrad reputation and opportunities. New Poets and Quants rankings '22 demonstrate Wash U is far more than a med-school feeder. I think broad strokes comparison of schools is dangerous - it’s about what you’re looking for and fit.

I’m not disagreeing with you that WashU is better than Tufts. If you read my comment, I said that I think academically WashU surpasses both Vanderbilt and Tufts, as I can find very few things that either of those places do better than WashU as a school (I personally don’t see any reason why someone, all things held equal like price, location, etc would attend Tufts over WashU. I just think that Tufts is more “selective” in their admissions, especially in ED, considering their yield rate is 10% higher than WashU’s. As I said, selectivity does not equal the strength of a school.

The Naviance data I am going off of is from one of the top boarding schools in the country. Many people on this website would know it by name. So yes, the data will likely differ from school to school, but from what I’m seeing Tufts in recent years has wanted stronger applicants from my school than WashU wants.

I’m not trying to make broad-stroke judgments about WashU, and I think it is a great school in general–I know this, as I spent my freshman year there. And yes, there are many fields in which you are far better off at WashU than at Cornell, especially if you are a premed.

The high school my data is from is a boarding school in the northeast (one of the schools in the “HADES” acronym) with significant acceptance history from all of the “top” colleges in the country. If anything, the Tufts data is also a bit diluted by the fact it’s a popular spot for athletes at our school, whereas I can’t remember or find a single recent athlete from our school that went to WashU (I looked at WashU’s rosters one day when I was bored and couldn’t find anyone).

Congratulations on attending one of the nation’s top boarding schools.

I am sure you internalized, as you wrote from that perspective (which I can’t confirm or deny), that may be nowhere near the correct admissions difficulty for the 99.99999 percent of the world that does not go to one of your schools - never mind that even lumping those schools together would prompt debate on even this thread I am sure. From my experience, you are in your own world as it pertains to admissions difficulty and subtle nuances to compare Tufts and Wash U. In hindsight, I should not have clicked into a naviance because if it was guiding my perspective (which it really didn’t) - that would be off as well.

it is weighted…keep in mind I go to a very competitive public high school in NY, and it is ranked in the top 0.3% of all high schools in America

I go to A VERY competitive public HS just outside of NYC…In the top 0.3% of high schools in America

I know the top publics in westchester, long island and nj. My impression is that it will be a hard admit. Hope you get it in though. Please tell us when you hear.

I go to the most competitive high school in Rockland County, and is worse than most Westchester schools. I am rlly not expecting anything lol
