Chance me for Wellesley!

I’m a high school junior starting to look into colleges! I already posted my stats on the Barnard page, but I just visited Wellesley recently and I absolutely loved it! I’m planning on applying EE.

PSAT: I got a 1340 last year, and just took it again. I feel like I did really, really good this past time around, but I don’t have the score back yet. I think it’s likely I got above a 1400. I’ll study for the SAT, which will definitely raise my score.

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.66, with a strong increase from freshman year to sophomore year. Not included is junior year so far, which is 3.86. I should probably mention that freshman year grades were destroyed by a concussion right before finals, which I will explain to colleges.

Weighted GPA (out of 4.5): 4.12 cumulative, but it rose from 4.0 freshman year to 4.23 sophomore year, and it’s looking like 4.3-4.4 this year.

Rank: I’ll graduate cum laude, which is top 10% I think.

APs: AP US History, AP Language and Composition, AP Environmental Science. I’ll take AP AB Calc and AP Gov next year, and possibly AP French. The school only offers APs starting in junior year, and I took all honors freshman and sophomore years.

Senior Year course load: AP BC Calc, AP Gov, French IV Honors or AP French, Global Scholars Seminar. I will be an editor for my school’s magazine next year, which is very competitive and takes up a full English course. I’m planning on dropping science senior year. Will that significantly hurt my chances? I’m marketing myself as a humanities kid.

Extracurriculars (with years adjusted for senior year):

  • Piano for 11 years
  • Theater for 6 years (13 shows)
  • Creative Writing Club co-founder and co-president (we’ve hosted a couple of published authors)
  • Debate Team founder and captain, 2 years
  • Mock Trial, 2 years (I hope I get an award or captain for this)
  • Spectrum (gay-straight alliance), 4 years
  • Jazz combo (like a school rock band) for 4 years, in the highest-level combo all four years
  • Model UN, 2 years
  • I’ve written a complete manuscript, and have a partial one that I will probably finish soon
  • I’m working on publishing a short story of mine in a literary magazine and I think I’m getting close
  • High School Democrats, 2 years (public outreach)

Summer Camps:

  • Berklee 5-Week Program for piano (received college credit)
  • I’m going to try and go to another good program this summer
  • I might learn French IV over the summer so I can go into AP French

Work:

  • Office Assistant at pediatrician’s office
  • Counselor at music camp
  • Babysitting

I’m hoping my essays and recommendations will be good because I’m a writer and I’m friendly with teachers who can write.

Awards:

  • Instrumental music award at school
  • Best French II student at school (will likely get Best French III student this year)
  • Best short story in my sophomore class
  • Writing fellow position at school (pretty competitive)

In terms of demographics, I’m a white middle-class girl at a private college prep school in MA. I will apply for financial age. I’m LGBT? I don’t know if that counts for anything.

Thanks!!!

Your private school college counselors will be able to chance you better than any of us will. They have access to data on how you compare to previous applicants from your school, for instance.
