<p>I'm worried that my weaknesses (objective factors) don't compensate enough for my strengths (subjective factors). Like, my SAT score seems amazing (for my area and ethnicity). not so for Stanford and Yale. I fall in the 25th percentile for math and writing.

<p>Not being top 10% will hurt. But 800 CR + Afr.Am is an extremely rare combination. I see you getting in to Wellesley, though Yale/Stanford will only be possible through great recs/essays.</p>

<p>If you’re more interested in Stanford then why aren’t you applying SCEA there?
Not being in the top 10% is killer for Yale and Stanford, as is a 2100 on the SAT, have you tried the ACT? Because statistically black females do very well on it. I think you’re solid for Wellesy, and I think that your URM status and great EC’s might pul you through wherever you choose to apply early, so be sure to think carefully about which shool you prefer, Yale or Stanford.</p>

<p>I’d say that you have a good shot at Stanford/ Yale and an even better chance at Wellesley. But you never know?!?! Anything is possible. Ummm. I have a question. How did you manage to do soo well on the CR section of the SAT?? I am in need of good advice.</p>

<p>Mvingi- SCEA doesn’t look at senior year grades. my junior GPA is a flop…i dont have time to study for the ACT.
Andyjo24 - i dunno. i read a lot. i was actually ****ed off. improving my math score was the point of retaking, so didnt try on the CR, yet i got an 800 and the math score remained.</p>

<p>As an URM, first generation college student with scores above 2000 on your SAT, I’d say that you’re a shoo-in at any school that you apply to.</p>

<p>In my opinion you’re not well-enough qualified based on stats alone. What will help you is the URM first-gen. Those are really impressive stats for a first-gen. And the URM is really helpful with those stats too.</p>

<p>Also, you do have time to study for the ACT. Take a practice test and see where you stand. My ACT score ended up correlating to a higher SAT than I got with little studying for either. ACT just fit better. There’s no harm in taking a practice test: it’s four hours of your life, and can make a huge difference if you can get anything maybe 32-33+. You’d be an absolute shoo-in with those scores and those hooks.</p>

<p>You have a pretty good shot everywhere- though I too am confused on the early thing. Stanford has an early action program too (and unlike yale it’s not restrictive) so why don’t you apply there early if that’s your top choice? If you really want to go there, statistically speaking you have a better shot early action…</p>

<p>But anyways i think your GPA/SAT score are decent- not amazing. The thing that will probably make or break your app is your essay and recs</p>

<p>You are mistaken. Both Stanford and Yale have restrictive early action policies. </p>
